      SYNOPSIS:   The Smithsonian Environmental Research Center's
      (SERC) Internship Program offers undergraduate and beginning graduate
      students a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the
      fields of environmental research and education. This program enables
      students to work on specific projects under the direction of SERC's
      professional staff and is tailored to provide the maximum educational
      benefit to each participant.

      DEADLINE NOTE
      Applicants must register and submit an application online. USE SOLAA
      TO APPLY FOR INTERNSHIP PROGRAM AT SERC.There are THREE application
      deadlines:For Winter/Spring projects beginning January - April, the
      deadline is November 15.For Summer projects beginning May - August,
      the deadline is February 1.For Fall appointments beginning September -
      December. the deadline is June 1.The Smithsonian awards no academic
      credit for studies conducted at the Institution. However, the Office
      of Fellowships is eager to assist in establishing mechanisms for
      universities to award credit upon satisfactory completion of projects.
