      The Search for Habitable Environments: Finding Curiosity in Your Classroom
      Educator Symposium and Field Trip
       
      Dates: June 24-28, 2013
      Locations: Mars Space Flight Facility, School of Earth and Space Exploration - Arizona State University, Tempe, AZ and geologic sites in No. AZ.
       
      Study Mars on Earth!  Join the Mars Rover scientists as they explore areas similar to Gale Crater on Mars by investigating similar areas on Earth!  This 5-day immersive experience includes:
       
      ·      Standards-aligned, hands-on, inquiry-based activities for your classroom
      ·      3 days on a truly “out-of-this-world” field trip to great sites:
      Ø  Grand Canyon
      Ø  Meteor Crater
      Ø  Lowell Observatory
      Ø  Sunset Crater Volcanic Area
      Ø  Rover analog field sites. 
       
      This Educator Symposium and Field Trip will be led by NASA’s Curiosity Rover’s CheMin Science Team and NASA Education STEM Specialists.  Get ready for the Next Generation Science Standards! Learn how to boost learning in your classroom by being immersed in the process of science. Gain understanding in the value of science observations and questioning while visiting world-class sites!
       
      Logistics:
      Day 1: Start at Arizona State University / Northern AZ
      Day 2: Northern AZ
      Day 3: Northern AZ
      Day 4: Northern AZ / Arizona State University
      Day 5: Arizona State University
       
      Participants will be responsible for transportation to and from Arizona State University, any lodging and meals.  Lodging rates are ~ $133/night (reservations must be made by June 10th). We will help to connect people who are interested in sharing accommodations/costs.  Transportation to and from the field sites will be covered.  Space is limited and will be available based on your application.  Participants will be notified immediately and given instructions on making reservations at the selected hotels.
