      The EEOP staff will assist any interested educator with submitting a
      proposal for the grant opportunity described below.



      Environmental Education Grants Program

      Administered by PG&E National Energy Group

      · K-12 schools
      · Non-profit organizations engaged in education projects, earth science,
      conservation and
      the environment
      · Teacher training programs with hands-on student activities that focus on
      earth science and
      environmental education projects
      · Previous grant recipients may apply; however, grants will not be awarded
      for the same
      program two years in a row

      · $200,000 in total program available for funding in 2002
      · Individual grants will be awarded from $5,000 to $10,000

      Grant Restrictions
      This grant program will not fund:
      · Capital improvements, construction or renovation projects
      · Purchase of real property
      · Scholarships or tuition assistance awarded by the organization for its
      own activities
      · One-day events
      · Political advocacy
      · Travel or hotel accommodations
      · No more than 25 percent of coordinator's or program director's salary
      · No more than 10 percent of speaker's honorarium

      Materials required with application
      · Original and completed application
      · Four-page program narrative (refer to program narrative section for
      specific details)
      · Copy of IRS Letter of Determination indicating 501c(3) tax exempt status
      · Profile of coordinator or director responsible for the proposed program
      · Six sets of copies printed on three hole punched paper
      · Do not staple pages, separate sets with paper clips
      · Do not insert materials in binders
      · Do not send slides, CDs, video or audio tapes or photographs with your

      Program Narrative
      · Limited to four pages typed, double-spaced on single-sided 8 ½" x 11" paper
      · The narrative should include information that highlights the following:

      1. What prompted the development of this program?
      2. What is the primary goal of the program?
      3. What objectives have been set to reach the goal?
      4. What is the educational focus of the program?
      5. What is the environmental focus of the program?
      6. Discuss the hands-on student activity.
      7. What is the lasting impact of the proposed project?
      8. Will there be other community partners or private sector support
      in the project?
      9. How will the program be evaluated and by whom?

      · Submit the application postmarked on or before September 30, 2002
      · Applications may not be faxed or transmitted electronically
      · Incomplete, faxed and or late applications will not be eligible and will
      be returned

      Judging Criteria
      · Financial need and budget utilization
      · Distinctive and innovative
      · Interactive with hands-on activities
      · Science-based/educational value
      · Environmental benefit
      · Legacy for future learning
      · Follow-up evaluation of proposed program

      · Notification letters will be mailed to all participants by November 20, 2002
      · A local representative of PG&E National Energy Group or PG&E Corporation
      Foundation will
      contact winners for disbursements of grants

      Final Report
      · Grant recipients must submit a final report by September 1, 2003
      · Final report forms will be mailed following the grant award and will
      require submission of
      information about the programs progress and achievements during the year
