Many schools have a garden or have plans to implement a garden in order to enhance their curriculum with hands-on learning for their students. These gardens provide produce that the students can eat in the classroom or take home for personal use; however, there’s much more that can be done with the food they grow.

The University of Arizona Cooperative Extension received a grant to develop Food Safety training for schools that have gardens and want to use what they grow in their school cafeteria. The training is ready to be implemented beginning in March. The training utilizes the guidelines developed by the AZ Dept. of Health Services and AZ Dept. of Education with revisions.

Below is a link to a survey to help us determine which schools currently have gardens or have plans to implement gardens. Please complete it by Friday, February 8, 2013 so we can determine the needs of schools even if your school doesn’t have any plans for a garden. We’d also appreciate it if you’d please share this survey with other schools or teachers.

    Thank you!
