>This position provides educational programs and practical information to
>the residents of the Shiprock Agency on the Navajo Nation with guidance

>Duties and Responsibilities:
> * Conducts needed educational programs and provides useful and
> practical information to the people within the Shiprock Agency on the
> Navajo Nation (NN).
> * Develop and facilitate Extension Agricultural and 4-H programs for
> the Shiprock Agency-NN in the program areas of agricultural production,
> marketing, natural resource management and 4-H youth development, using
> all available means of communication.
> * Develop an Extension Advisory Committee, which will give direction
> on critical issues for program development.
> * Organize and direct groups as needed to carry out Cooperative
> Extension programs, which include civil rights and affirmative action.
> * Acquire and share knowledge for the Shiprock Agency-NN situation
> relative to livestock production, grazing and range management, small and
> large acreage farming, plant and animal diseases and pests, gardening,
> livestock and farming financial management, fertilizer needs, irrigation
> systems, quality and quantity of water, all natural resources, cultural
> appreciation, and the overall needs of youth.
> * Involve tribal leadership, the Extension Advisory Committee,
> commodity groups, governmental agencies, county Extension staff, and
> clientele in program planning, delivery and evaluation.
> * Identify and develop a core group of volunteers and cooperators.
> * Maintain technical competence in agricultural and natural resources
> subject matter relative to the Shiprock Agency-NN needs.
> * Bachelor's Degree in agricultural/natural resources or related
> * Two years of applicable, closely related professional experience.
> * Knowledge and experience in the application of electronic technology.
> * Possession of a valid Arizona driver's license and access to
> reliable transportation upon employment.
> * Master's Degree in agriculture, natural resources or a discipline
> closely related to the Extension mission.
> * Ability to design and implement productive and innovative problem
> solving to enhance educational programs, and to secure supplemental
> resources needed to conduct and expand programs.
> * Demonstrated effectiveness in supporting a team approach to
> Extension programming.
> * High competency in the subject matter and people related skills such
> as teaching, advising, problem analysis, communications, human relations
> and leadership development.
> * At least two years of Extension related work with Native American
> Tribes and on Tribal lands.
