      Sustainability Awards Ceremony

      When: April 22nd, 3:30-5:00pm

      Where: NAU North Campus, Liberal Arts 120

      The purpose of the campus sustainability awards is to recognize those who have enhanced the culture of sustainability on the NAU campus and surrounding community. A sustainability award nominee should undertake significant actions resulting in positive impacts to the sustainability our local community. Participation is open to any member of the local community.


      Nomination categories:

                 NAU Student – Hooper Sustainability Cash Prize, see details below (up to $2500)

      •           NAU Organization

      •           NAU Faculty/Staff

      •           Leadership Award

      •           Flagstaff Community Person or Organization

      Letters of nomination should be submitted to environmentalcaucus@... and include a statement describing the nominee’s role and activities, and the impact of their activities on the sustainability of our community.

      Hooper Sustainability Cash Prize

      Nomination materials:  

      Letter of nomination is required.

      Letters of support + Nominee’s transcript + Nominee’s CV are complementary.

      Who can nominate? Full time faculty; advising staff; deans and department chairs.

      The annual NAU Hooper Sustainability Prizes recognize significant contributions of an undergraduate and a graduate student toward solutions to sustainability challenges on campus or in northern Arizona. These prizes are awarded to the student winners of the Environmental Caucus's Student Sustainability Awards. Approximately $2500 is available this year for all of the prizes combined. 

      Areas of special focus include:

      • NAU campus sustainability (related to climate change, transportation, energy, water and landscape systems, recycling or waste, campus food systems)
      • Local community-based sustainability projects
      • Environmentally sustainable business practices
      • Natural resources and ecosystem science/management
      • Environmental health in tribal and rural communities
