March 2014 – Educational and Career Opportunities for Native American Students
The Tribal Energy Program is pleased to share two exciting opportunities for Native American college students—our College Student Summer Internship Program and the American Council for an Energy Efficient Economy (ACEEE) Summer Study on Energy Efficiency in Buildings.
Tribal Energy Program Summer Internship Application Deadline Extended to March 28
The Tribal Energy Program is accepting applications for our Summer Internship opportunity through next Friday, March 28, 2014. Interested students may apply via the Sandia National Laboratories (SNL) website by searching on the key word tribal energy.
The 12-week 2014 Tribal Energy Program Summer Internship will be located at SNL in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Working closely with experienced renewable energy program staff and tribes interested in deploying renewable energy systems, interns will benefit from direct tribal energy project experience and exposure to a variety of issues concerning tribal renewable energy technology use and application. Frequent travel will be required, as interns will participate in field visits to current tribal energy projects. For details about eligibility, application requirements, and compensation, see the attached SNL flier. The Tribal Energy Program provides Native communities with education and training to build the knowledge and skills that are essential to developing, implementing, and sustaining energy efficiency and renewable energy projects in Indian Country. Because future generations have an important role in fulfilling that mission, our summer internships provide opportunities for full-time technical undergraduate and graduate students to gain on-the-ground experience in clean energy technology deployment in Indian Country
Visit the Tribal Energy Program website to learn more about the Tribal Energy Program College Student Summer Internships.
ACEEE Summer Study on Energy Efficiency in Buildings Accepting Applications Through March 21
ACEEE is accepting applications for Linda Latham Scholarships to attend the 2014 Summer Study on Energy Efficiency in Buildings through March 21, 2014. Scholarships are funded by the Linda Latham Scholarship Fund, which was established in memory of Linda Latham, who served as ACEEE’s Chief Operating Officer until her untimely death in September 2011. Linda believed that students bring talent and creativity to the field of energy efficiency, especially if we provide a venue to inspire and educate them.
To be eligible, the applicant must be an undergraduate or graduate student in an accredited college or university whose course work is related to energy/energy efficiency, climate change, environmental science, or a related field of study, and who is considering a career in energy/energy efficiency. “Latham Scholars” will be exposed to new ideas and opportunities as they interact with energy efficiency experts from around the world. In turn, Summer Study attendees will be able to meet these exceptional students—a reciprocal opportunity for all!
For the 2014 Summer Study, the Linda Latham Scholarship fund will award scholarships to students at three different scholarship levels. Level 1 awardees will receive a full conference registration, housing and meals, and up to $500 toward transportation costs. Level II scholars will receive a full conference registration and housing and meals. Level III winners will receive a full registration to the conference. There are more Level III scholarships available than Level II scholarships, and more Level II scholarships than Level I; therefore, chances of selection will be highest at Level III and lowest at Level I.
Applicants are encouraged to complete the online application, or they may use the word formatted application form available on the ACEEE website and e-mail it toscholarships@.... Applications must be submitted with required attachments including a copy of the applicant’s Student ID and proof of student status (unofficial transcript/enrollment for current semester). No applications will be accepted after the March 21, 2014 deadline. Applications will be reviewed and chosen by a committee of ACEEE staff. Applications will be reviewed and chosen by a committee of ACEEE staff, and scholarship winners will be notified by April 4, 2014. Please contact scholarships@... if you have questions.
