      Disciplinary Literacy: Teaching Reading within Content Courses
      March 5th 8:30 ­ 3:30 $80
      This workshop provides secondary educators an opportunity to understand disciplinary literacy as defined by Arizona's College and Career Readiness Standards. The critical skills necessary for reading texts in different disciplines- history, science, literature, mathematics, Physical education, Art and technical subjects will be shared.
      Participants will learn:
      The difference between reading and writing across the curriculum and disciplinary literacy
      How text complexity affects reading within the content areas
      Discipline specific strategies for incorporating text to building conceptual understanding within their content course
       
       
      Writing Within the Secondary Science Classroom:
      April 9th, 8:30 ­ 4:30, $60
      This one-day workshop will provide the secondary science teacher (grades 6-12) with research based practices and teaching tools to support their students¹ writing of explanations and arguments within the science classroom and the implementation of Arizona¹s College and Career Readiness Standards.

      Webinar: Argument in the 6-12 Science classroom
      March 4th 3:30 ­ 5pm Free
      An overview of argumentation and the skills necessary to immerse students in the process will be discussed. Resources for developing lessons focused on developing and analyzing arguments in the secondary science classroom will be shared.

      The first 30 minutes of the webinar will provide an overview of the pedagogical shifts within Arizona's College and Career Ready Literacy standards in Science and Technical subjects. Participants who are knowledgeable about the shifts within the literacy standards may join the webinar at 4pm.
       

      Webinar: Close Reading of Science Text:
      March 25th, 3:30 ­ 5:00, free
      Reasoning with complex text in science requires careful gathering of evidence from text and an understanding of the scientific ideas presented. This webinar will provide teachers an overview of the process of close reading and how to apply it within the science classroom.
