San Francisco Public Charter School Symposium

The Role of Public Charter Schools in Promoting Public Education

Featuring special guests: Reed Hastings, President, State Board of Education and Jerry Brown, Mayor, City of Oakland
Presented by the California Network of Educational Charters

You are cordially invited to attend San Francisco's first public charter school symposium entitled, "The Role of Public Charter Schools in Promoting Public Education," on Wednesday, December 12, 2001. The symposium is designed to educate the public about charter schools and will showcase and highlight various programs offered by these public schools to the broader community.

The event, sponsored by CANEC, GreatSchools.net, CharterTeach, Full Circle Fund and KIPP, will give each of the San Francisco Unified School District's public charter schools the opportunity to personally present their unique programs.  This symposium will demonstrate how public charter schools provide San Francisco parents and students with diverse choices, serve some of San Francisco's most at-risk children, bring innovation into our system of public education and provide small, personable learning communities. Featured schools include Creative Arts Charter Academy, Edison Charter Academy, Gateway High School, Leadership High School, Life Learning Academy, and J.U.M.P. Academy.  Currently, these public charter schools serve almost 1,000 San Francisco children.

The event will run from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 12 at the Delancey Street Foundation at 600 Embarcadero Street. Please RSVP by December 5 to (415) 841-8910 ext. 309.
