      The Paul G. Allen Family Foundation

      Launched in 2004 through the consolidation of Paul Allen's six
      private foundations (first established in1988), the Paul G. Allen
      Family Foundation supports nonprofit organizations focused on making
      positive and measurable change in the Pacific Northwest. The mission
      of the Foundation is to build healthy communities and advance social
      progress through four strategic programs that nurture arts and
      cultural endeavors, engage children more deeply in the learning
      process, respond to the needs of vulnerable populations, and advance
      scientific and technological discoveries that expand our
      understanding of the universe. The Paul G. Allen Family Foundation
      reviews and awards grants twice per year, and accepts applications
      from eligible organizations located in, or serving the populations
      of, Alaska, Idaho, Montana, Oregon and Washington. Visit the

      Position summary

      The Program Analyst will develop and conduct research and evaluation
      designed to increase the impact of the Foundation's work. Primary
      activities will include analysis of final reports and work plans,
      identification of trends among grantees, development of baseline
      data, and tracking of foundation success toward achieving high-level
      program goals. Working closely with Foundation program officers, the
      Program Analyst will play a key role in the development of new
      initiatives, the refinement of our current evaluation process, the
      creation of an active research program to provide up to date
      information on issues in the field. Specific responsibilities
      include, but are not limited to, the following:

      Essential duties and responsibilities (Other duties may be assigned)
      • Refine current evaluation process to include assessment of success
      of individual grants as well as progress toward Foundation goals

      • Evaluate the effectiveness of current grants programs including:
      o Design and implementation of grantee surveys
      o Collection and analysis of outcome data generated through in-house,
      grantee and third-party evaluation reports
      o Summarize and report impact of grants on recipients and communities
      and impact of aggregate grants against overall program goals
      o Recommend strategies for improving impact
      o Communicate findings internally and externally

      • Conduct research related to the development and implementation of
      new and current initiatives:
      o Develop needs assessments and conduct literature reviews regarding
      potential areas of investment
      o Create opportunities for input by community members and funding
      o Monitor and report out internally on trends related to areas of
      o Design and coordinate meetings of grantees, funding colleagues, and
      other key constituents for feedback
      o Collect a variety of data and report findings to inform future

      • Manage specific grants and/or funding initiatives:
      o Work with expert advisors to conduct due diligence related to
      scientific and technology proposals

      Required Qualifications

      • Significant professional work experience in related areas such as
      research, analysis and evaluation.
      • Exceptional oral and written communications skills
      • Quantitative and qualitative analytical skills in evaluating
      programs, organizations, and opportunities
      • Ability to execute on a number of diverse projects simultaneously;
      comfort with taking initiative and making progress amidst competing
      • Strong research experience; ability to quickly and clearly
      synthesize information
      • Proficiency in working with financial statements and models
      • Effective project management skills, attention to detail, and
      ability to drive projects toward completion Preferred Qualifications
      • Knowledge of and experience with private foundation grant making
      • Knowledge of Micro Edge GIFTS software Education/experience Masters
      Degree from accredited institution and 5 plus years relevant
      experience, or, equivalent years work experience; or equivalent
      combination of education and experience.
