      The Organization

      SRI International (SRI), founded in 1946 as Stanford Research
      Institute, is one of the world's leading social research and

      SRI's Policy Division, the second largest of SRI's operating units,
      helps government agencies, nonprofits, and commercial clients address
      complex issues in education, training, health, economic development,
      and human services.

      The Policy Division's Center for Technology in Learning (CTL) is one
      of the nation's leading education technology research centers and
      supports government, foundation and corporate clients.

      CTL's portfolio includes over $20 million in NSF and Department of
      Education funding and a $25 million Science of Learning Center. The
      center has conducted the largest education efficacy study ever funded
      by the U.S. government and is evaluating The Bill and Melinda Gates
      Foundation large-scale education initiative. Commercial clients
      include such industry leaders as Pearson, CTB/McGraw Hill, Texas
      Instruments, Apple Computer, Intel, and Scholastic, Inc. CTL has
      developed state of the art products, processes, and methodologies and
      holds patents in the areas of handheld technology and formative

      CTL has developed a Center of Excellence in technology-enhanced
      assessment to maximize the value that their unique experience,
      expertise, and products in assessment can bring to customers in a
      range of industries and markets, including domestic K-12 education,
      professional certification and licensure, and international education.

      The current client list is comprised of some of the most important and
      largest companies engaging in the education and technology market.
      They are attracted to the center's research-based, in-depth knowledge
      of educational technology, ability to help them conceptualize and
      communicate new product concepts, and commitment to a superb quality
      of collaboration.

      Position Summary

      The Center for Technology in Learning (CTL) is looking for a Research
      Area Director to market CTL's expertise, design and development
      system, partnership capabilities, and consulting services in
      innovative assessments to clients who develop or use
      technology-enhanced assessments. The candidate will raise awareness
      of our expertise, methodologies, and products in the field, raise
      awareness in the industry of the promise and feasibility of innovative
      assessments, as well as manage relationships and lead projects with
      state and major industry clients.

      Prospective clients in the K-12 assessment field range from publishers
      of large-scale and formative assessments to state assessment programs.
      The Research Area Director will grow and deepen our practice in the
      area of technology-enhanced assessment in keeping with the
      industry-research partnership model that CTL has formed with
      commercial clients through its Strategic Learning Consulting (SLC)

      The ideal candidate will be entrepreneurial, experienced in the test
      development industry, with a passion for harnessing education
      research, business innovation, and technology to improve learning
      experiences through innovative and high-quality assessments. The
      Research Area Director will market CTL services and products in the
      area of technology-enhanced assessment by seeking projects in the
      domestic K-12 market, and also expand our practice into other
      promising areas such as professional certification and licensure, and
      the international education market.

      The successful candidate will:

      • Lead and support marketing efforts of CTL's Center of Excellence in
      technology-enhanced assessment.

      • Lead and participate in significant client projects.

      • Bring experience and expertise in the areas of test design,
      development, and measurement

      • Coordinate with CTL Co-Directors, SLC Practice Leader, and
      Assessment Research Directors to define and execute on strategic
      business objectives of the Technology-Enhanced Assessment Program.

      • Lead business development/marketing efforts, including meeting
      annual financial targets.

      • Be a key contributor to the effort to grow the strategic asset base
      of CTL including intellectual property, methodology, processes, and

      • Develop and maintain productive relationships with corporate and
      divisional business development staff across SRI.
