      Jumpstart is a national early literacy organization that recruits
      and trains college students to work one-to-one with preschool
      children from low-income backgrounds. Through extraordinary
      attention in yearlong mentoring relationships, Jumpstart inspires
      children to learn, adults to teach, families to get involved, and
      communities to progress together. Jumpstart is working toward the
      day every child in America enters school prepared to succeed.
      Jumpstart was founded at Yale University in 1993 and has grown from
      a campus-based service program to a national education leader that
      currently engages 2,500 college students in service to nearly 10,000
      children in 24 states and 60 communities across the country.

      Position Overview
      Jumpstart is committed to maintaining our aggressive growth to
      increase our reach to children in need. The Development Associate
      will play a critical role in supporting Jumpstart's growth in the
      Western region to further strengthen Jumpstart's presence and impact
      in California, Arizona and Seattle. To this end, the Development
      associate will provide support to the region's Development Director
      and Executive Director as well as Jumpstart's national development
      team. This is an excellent development opportunity with growth

      The Development Associate will have four core areas of
      responsibility: 1) grantwriting and reporting; 2) foundation,
      corporate and government relations, 3) individual cultivation, and
      4) special events.

      This position requires the combination of exceptional written and
      oral communication skills, flexibility, innovative problem solving,
      ability to contribute to the region's strategy development, and an
      eagerness to learn. The Development Associate must have the ability
      to communicate and collaborate effectively with many people in the
      organization and to be willing to fully understand the critical
      inner workings of the relationships that drive Jumpstart's work –
      from higher education and local partnerships to working with the
      media, public officials, and large corporations. The position
      reports to the Regional Development Director.

      Specific Responsibilities
      • Support regional fundraising strategy and implementation
      with Development Director, Executive Director and national
      development staff
      • Grant writing, including collecting and synthesizing
      necessary data to ensure quality proposals and correspondence with
      • Coordinate the submission of progress reports and renewals
      and oversee general correspondence with donors
      • Assist Development and Executive Director in the cultivation
      and maintenance of regional donors
      • Support management of the regional Board of Advisors
      • Produce high-quality and effective written communication at
      all stages of the development process
      • Maintain and use individual donor database; coordinate
      implementation and tracking of appeals
      • Support implementation of regional aspects of
      corporate/national relations programs
      • Create, support and manage partnerships with corporations to
      enhance fundraising and in-kind donations
      • Create and support the management of foundation partnerships
      to achieve growth goals
      • Pursue media and marketing opportunities within region to
      promote the Jumpstart brand
      • Oversee the implementation of Jumpstart's corporate programs
      by sites within region
      • Support Special Events to ensure that all Jumpstart events
      are executed in a high-quality manner

      • Bachelor's degree required
      • One to two years of previous experience in
      fundraising/business development preferred
      • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
      • Outstanding persuasive writing skills
      • Experience in grant/proposal writing preferred
      • Proven record of successful fundraising
      • Advanced organizational skills and ability to plan and
      implement in a demanding, fast-paced environment
      • Goal oriented and bottom-line driven
      • Energetic, enthusiastic, with a desire to learn and grow
      within a dynamic, entrepreneurial organization
