      The New Teacher Project
      Northwest Partner

A start-up organization founded by a group of veteran staff of Teach For America, The New Teacher Project addresses one of the central education reform challenges facing our public schools - recruiting and selecting outstanding new teachers and creating school environments that maximize their impact on student achievement. With our committed and entrepreneurial staff already running 20 contracts in sites across the country and with an aggressive growth plan, The New Teacher Project aims for nothing short of transforming the way new teachers are brought into the profession and trained and supported during their initial years of teaching.

      Title: Partner
Location: Northwest Region (including Northern California)

      Overview:
The New Teacher Project is seeking an individual to serve as Partner for the Northwest Region. There are currently eight Partners, each responsible for a separate geographic region of the country. Partners serve as the management team for the organization and report directly to the CEO.

Successful candidates will demonstrate excellent communication and writing skills, the ability to think through complicated systems and make recommendations for their improvement, strong leadership skills, and a desire to help grow the organization to reach its potential.

      Responsibilities include:

Managing up to five Site Managers as they fulfill consulting contracts during the 2001 - 2002 school year, which includes:
      -       Serving as the client lead
      -       Setting goals and objectives of each project
      -       Frequently measuring progress and results
      -       Sharing best practices throughout the organization
      -       Developing and implementing tools, techniques and strategies as needed to refine each program
Securing six contracts with states and school districts in the region
Collaborating with other Partners and the Management Team to grow the organization into a significant force in the field of education

We offer a friendly team of colleagues, a competitive salary and benefits package, and the opportunity to impact the direction of a growing, mission-driven company committed to the success of our nation's children.

To apply, please send a cover letter (indicating position title) and resume to:

      The New Teacher Project
Site Managers (San Jose, CA, Los Angeles, CA & Denver, CO)

The New Teacher Project is a non-profit consulting group that helps public school systems and states develop the capacity to recruit, select, train, and support new teachers more effectively.  A spin-off of Teach For America, we are fulfilling 16 contracts this year, and growth projections call for 72 contracts by the 2002-3 school year.

With half the teaching force turning over in the next decade, new teachers will soon determine student achievement levels and influence school cultures-and they will tomorrow's school leaders.  By impacting the talent and diversity of these new teachers, The New Teacher Project will play a vital role in strengthening our nation's education system.

The New Teacher Project typically works with clients on two different types of contracts.  The first type involves working with the human resources departments of school districts.  We conduct an analysis of the clients' current systems for recruiting, selecting, training, and supporting new teachers, make recommendations for how to improve those systems, and then work with the client to ensure the effective implementation of the recommendations.

The second type of contract involves developing alternate routes into teaching for high achieving individuals.  We start local and statewide programs to recruit and train outstanding candidates from a variety of backgrounds to teach in public school classrooms.

We are currently seeking individuals to serve as Site Managers for the organization.  Site Managers work on-site with our clients and are responsible for ensuring the successful execution of our contracts.  Site Manger positions are available in San Jose (CA), Los Angeles (CA)  and Denver (CO).

Successful candidates will demonstrate excellent communication and writing skills, the ability to identify challenges and actively work to find solutions, the ability to work effectively with others, and strong leadership skills.

      Competitive salary and benefits offered.

Interested individuals should send a cover letter and resume, indicating the position they are interested in to:
