      Director of Sales and Marketing, Headlands Institute

      This is a full time position with the Headlands
      Institute (HI), a campus of the Yosemite National
      Institutes (YNI). Headlands Institute is a nationally
      recognized leader in the field of experiential
      environmental education, providing educational
      adventures in nature’s classroom to inspire a personal
      connection to the natural world and responsible
      actions to sustain it. Headlands Institute and its
      sister campuses conduct programs for more than 40,000
      participants annually at its three campuses:
      Headlands Institute in the Golden Gate National
      Recreation Area, near San Francisco, Olympic Park
      Institute in Olympic National Park, Washington, and
      Yosemite Institute in Yosemite National Park,

      The Director of Sales and Marketing is an integral
      part of the Headlands Institute management team and
      develops, sells and promotes all programs and
      businesses which are consistent with the mission of
      Headlands Institute. The Director of Sales and
      Marketing is responsible for communication between
      departments and works closely with all members of the
      management team.

      Duties of the Job:

      • Lead, manage and oversee all sales and marketing
      activity and relationships with customers;

      • Produce annual HI sales and marketing plan for
      field science education, conference, retail store and
      possible summer camp; including quarterly updates,
      SWOT analysis, clear objectives, strategies, tactics
      and target audiences;

      • Market, promote and sell all HI activities and
      services that comprise an annuals sales budget of
      almost $3.0 million;

      • Develop, improve and distribute all marketing,
      sales and information materials that convey a
      professional, first-rate image of the HI brand and
      enhance customer preparation;

      • Meet organizational sales, marketing revenue and
      expense targets; manage and track marketing budget;

      • Cultivate local and regional level customers and
      prospective customer relationships with teachers,
      parents and school administrators and conference

      • Develop and strengthen partnerships with key
      constituencies including the National Park Service,
      local communities, customers and park partners;

      • Staffing for exhibits at area conventions as

      • Monthly review and updates of HI portions of YNI

      • Serve as staff liaison to board marketing and
      business committees;

      • Serve as member of HI Management Team;

      • Attend twice monthly YNI Marketing Department

      • Coordinate vendor relationships, including those
      with printers, graphic designers and photographers.


      The ideal candidate can demonstrate the following:

      · Bachelors degree or equivalent experience
      with at least six years of applicable industry

      · Well-organized and self-direction with
      knowledge in all areas of sales and marketing

      · Energetic and forwarding-thinking with high
      ethical standards;

      · Strategic planner with sound technical
      skills, analytical ability, good judgment and strong
      sales and marketing focus;

      · Thorough, decisive and detail oriented with
      proven success in the implementation of polices, goals
      sales targets, and directives;

      · Effectively manage employees with diverse
      skill sets and backgrounds in a close community

      · Strong sense of humor

      · Ability to read, analyze and interpret
      complex legal and financial documents;

      · Ability to respond effectively to
      emergencies and crisis situations;

      · Ability to communicate to internal and
      external audiences about all aspects of HI’s
      operations and develop a thorough understanding of
      other YNI operations.


      $45,000 - $55,000 (with potential for a performance
      based bonus)and a comprehensive benefits package,
      including medical and dental benefits, generous
      vacation and sick day policy, flexible benefit plan,
