      Job description:

      The Assistant Product Manager (APM) will play a key role in
      supporting product development at GreatSchools. The APM will work
      daily with design, editorial, business development, engineering and
      the Senior Product Manager to design/deliver products and product
      enhancements. The successful candidate will be highly organized,
      deadline-oriented, possess excellent interpersonal skills, have a
      strong user-centric understanding of website usability, and be
      comfortable in technical discussions. These demonstrated qualities
      will enable the APM to help drive our internal release process
      through all levels of management: working with product teams to
      create project specs; documenting and communicating release
      schedules; identifying and resolving potential production
      challenges; making production trade-off decisions as launch
      deadlines approach, and conducting cost-benefit studies of projects
      after they are launched.

      The APM of GreatSchools.net will report to the organization's Senior
      Product Manager.

      Primary Responsibilities:
      . Manage organization-wide release cycle process by: coordinating
      release planning process, working closely with engineering to
      finalize release details, and documenting and communicating release
      schedules
      . Work closely with product teams to: establish project requirements
      and priorities; schedule project responsibilities and phases within
      the team; insure on-schedule delivery.
      . Conduct quality assurance testing, including identifying bugs, and
      work with the engineering and design team to both isolate their
      cause and resolve issues.
      . Directly manage the development process for new features or
      product enhancements, particularly supporting design/UI and
      GreatSchools' subscription service; conduct cost-benefit studies
      after launch.
      . Provide regular status reports to internal clients regarding their
      projects.

      Secondary Responsibilities:
      . Conduct competitive research and user studies to help drive future
      product development
      . Develop, maintain and analyze performance metrics to identify
      usage patterns and drive product improvements with editorial and
      business teams.
      . Help draft supporting copy for Web pages as needed

      Experience and Skills Required:
      . Four-year college degree; at least 2-3 years relevant experience.
      . Highly organized and creative problem solver who can manage
      multiple high-stakes projects simultaneously.
      . Proven track record of coordinating projects across multiple
      departments and skill sets.
      . Keen sense of Web usability.
      . Experience working with engineers in technical Web environment.
      . Basic knowledge of HTML required.

      environment.
      . Independent self-starter and outstanding team player.
      . Superior written, verbal, presentation and analytic skills.
      . Experience working in a start-up environment.
      . Interest in the organization's mission of helping parents make
      better decisions about their children's education and/or track
      record of public service.

      Salary commensurate with experience. This is a full-time (40 hours
      per week) regular position. No contract offers, please. Benefits
