The State District Superintendent invites all qualified individuals interested in the position of Senior
Analyst-Office of Data and Policy.
Newark Public Schools (NPS) is in a historic period of change. With the appointment of Superintendent
Cami Anderson and a significant level of national attention and investment, Newark has an incredible
opportunity to transform the school system into one that ensures that all of its students graduate with the
reading, writing, critical thinking, analytic, and quantitative skills to succeed in the college or career of
their choice. In NPS, all means all – including students who fall behind or have been considered “hard to
serve” for a host of reasons.
Currently, NPS has 71 schools serving 36,814 students, of whom 89% qualify for free or reduced price
lunch and 92% are students of color. Within the district, a sizable number of students do not meet or
exceed state standards, and just over half of those who attend high school graduate with a diploma.
Superintendent Anderson is building a talented and committed leadership team to partner with her in
moving NPS towards the ambitious goal of preparing all students for success.
1. Bachelor’s Degree or higher from an accredited college or university in education, economics,
social sciences, research methodologies, statistics, public administration, operations research
psychology, sociology, human resources development, political science, or a closely related field.
Master’s degree preferred.
2. Minimum three (3) years of data analysis experience, including knowledge of statistical software
packages like SAS, STATA, or SPSS and Microsoft Excel/PowerPoint utilities and functions
3. At least two (2) years of experience or working knowledge of public education and/or public
4. Knowledge of current technological developments/trends in K-12 data analysis
The ideal candidate will demonstrate the ability to: Develop well-designed reports and charts based on research and analysis. Help develop and follow research methodology and protocol. Support the development of/ implement precise data input and reporting protocols in collaboration with district and school personnel. Prioritize tasks and manage one’s time to fulfill ad hoc requests, while also building long-term capacity and processes within the district. Trouble-shoot, problem-solve, and anticipate issues needing resolution.
In addition the candidate must have: Excellent oral and written communication skills. Strong attention to detail, extremely well-organized, able to work in team-oriented high pressure environment, and meet frequent and changing deadlines. Excellent analytical skills and experience gathering, analyzing and interpreting data. Excellent interpersonal skills in dealing with education and non-education personnel, internal and external to NPS. Experience communicating research and analyses to non-researchers/analysts.

Office of Data & Policy seeks a Senior Analyst to support effective instructional practices in all of
Newark’s schools by:
(1) working with large and often complex datasets to provide innovative and rigorous data analysis, and
(2) supporting the Office’s goal to build and maintain high quality data management and assessment
The work in the Office of Data & Policy includes, but is not limited to, helping develop and utilize a range
of data tools, such as dashboards to measure school performance, a climate survey to measure school
culture, and evaluations for academic program pilots. This person will work closely with the Executive
Director, Data & Policy, team members in the Office of Data & Policy, members of the Superintendent’s
leadership team, school personnel, and outside partners. This is an exciting opportunity for an individual
with the right skills and experiences to have a lasting impact on all of Newark Public School’s teachers and their students.
The Senior Analyst’s responsibilities will include, but not be limited to, the following: Collects, analyzes, and interprets data; prepares statistical and narrative reports and/or graphs, as appropriate.
o Analyzes state and local school accountability results and produces high quality reports and materials for presentation to the NPS senior leadership. Uses modeling, regression, psychometric and other techniques to identify structures, conditions, interventions, and programs associated with strong college and career readiness. Produces ad-hoc data analyses at the request of NPS leadership. Serves as an investigator on projects of complexities consistent with above criteria; write proposals to external funding agencies to ensure NPS thought leadership in K-12 accountability. Participates in frequent meetings with NPS internal partners to disseminate information and collect feedback on the potential impact on other program areas.
