Director of School at a new and growing progressive school
- The San Francisco Schoolhouse is expanding and we are adding to our founding team with a permanent Director of School. The Director of School will be a part-time position for the 2014-2016 school years, and then transition to a full-time position.
The Schoolhouse seeks an experienced Director of School to lead a new and growing school that is fulfilling its mission to make high-quality, progressive education accessible to more families. The next Director of School will carry out this exciting and fulfilling mission as the school grows from its current 31 students spanning kindergarten through 3rd grade, up to 8th grade with 90 students.
The Director of School must possess the energy, creativity and charismatic leadership to ensure that the Schoolhouse remains true to its mission to be financially affordable, while providing a high-quality, progressive education. The Director is responsible for managing all teaching and support staff, and for guiding and evaluating the overall program effectiveness of the school's curriculum and parent participation structure.
Operations & Faculty
As Director you will report to the Board of Directors while working with a seasoned group of teachers and a dedicated community of parents. The Director collaborates with the Board of Directors to oversee the daily business and financial affairs of the school. The Director makes recommendations, nominations, reports and proposals and creates a strong strategic partnership with the Board. The Director is responsible for the daily management of the school and overseeing the staff of teachers and assistants.
The Director selects teachers with the skills and passion needed to implement an experiential, project-based curriculum. The Director both understands and actively supports teachers' requirements to successfully implement a progressive curriculum both inside and outside the classroom.
The Director is an active presence within the school and builds close relationships with parents and families. You work closely with the head of the Parent/Teacher Organization (PTO) to manage the parent participation structure and ensure that each family fulfills the volunteer requirements of attending the Schoolhouse.
