      INSTRUCTIONAL COACH (LITERACY)

      The Instructional Coach is a member of Envision's Education Team, working closely with teachers and literacy leads across our three Charter High Schools. The primary focus of this position is to provide research-based coaching that builds capacity of teachers across the curriculum to plan and implement effective literacy strategies within a workshop-model classroom. The coach will spend the majority of his/her time working in classrooms with teachers providing professional development that would include, but not be limited to, in-class coaching, observing, modeling of instructional strategies, guiding teachers in assessing student work, and developing instructional plans with teams of teachers or as individuals. The Instructional Coach will also support teachers to successfully implement our Envision Response to Intervention Framework, specifically using formative and interim assessments to inform instruction. 

      RESPONSIBILITIES
      The tasks and responsibilities may change to best support our educational programs and teachers. Areas of responsibilities include:
      Supporting and coaching teachers
      • Model best instructional practices, methods, materials, and technology, including side-by-side coaching
      • Engage in the Cycle of Coaching with teachers, observing instruction and offering insights to strengthen teaching and learning 
      • Provide school-level or network-level professional development related to literacy focus

      Accelerated Reader Intervention Coordination 
      • Coordinate implementation of Accelerated Reader program
      • Train intervention teachers and administrators to use Renaissance Learning platform
      • Work with school sites to administer online reading assessment 3-4 times a year
      • Work with teachers to institute grade-level and school-wide reading interventions
      • Manage school-wide independent reading initiatives, including keeping inventory of books, cataloguing books, and purchasing new books
      • Assure all requirements of program are met, including data reporting and contract renewal

      Read Right Intervention Coordination  
      • Coordinate implementation of Read Right/College Literacy Program
      • Work with school sites to determine student participation and schedule
      • Manage Read Right materials, equipment and supplies, including order, distributing, inventory, renewal
      • Assure all requirements of Read Right Program are met, including data reporting and contract renewal

      Beginning Teacher Support and Assessment (BTSA) 
      • Provide direct coaching to new teachers that qualify for the program, including leading required meetings and evaluating work
      • Identify and track status of teachers in the program and ensure they are meeting required deadlines.  

      Other
      • Travel to school sites required. Other travel may be necessary.
      • Other responsibilities to be determined as needed by Supervisor.

      REPORTS TO
      Vice President of Teaching and Learning.  Based in the Support Office, Oakland, CA, but working at schools in San Francisco, Oakland and Hayward

      QUALIFICATIONS
      • 8+ years of high school teaching experience or directly related experience. English teaching credential and EL authorization preferred.
      • Demonstrated 5+ years of success coaching teachers and leading professional development in small and large groups
      • Demonstrated 5+ years of success with formal curriculum development, with a specific focus on secondary literacy development
      • Experience in project-based learning, specific instructional programs (Read Right, Accelerated Reader) and the workshop model desired
      • Familiarity and experience with Common Core State Standards
      • Skilled in Project Management 
      o Ability to map backward from desired outcomes
      o Ability to manage detailed project plans, including scheduling meetings, updating team members, setting agendas
      o Ability to stay organized and prioritize work
      o Effective communicator with internal and external teams
      o Experience using data to lead decision-making processes

      • Team Player
      o Interest in being part of a fast moving, dynamic team
      o Works well with people at all levels of an organization, both internal and external
      o Strong quantitative analytical skills and comfortable learning new technologies
      o Motivated, self-starter who is able to work independently and be a great team member

      SALARY AND BENEFITS
      • Salaried position. 186 days per year—August  through June.
