Job Opening: Vice President of Marketing and Talent for BUILD

BUILD's mission is to use entrepreneurship to excite and propel disengaged, low-income students through high school to college success. Every year in the United States, 1.3 million young people drop out of high school. Unless something drastic changes, within a decade, the number of dropouts will have exceeded the entire population of New York City.
Most of these young people drop out because they're bored. Knowing this, BUILD addresses the crisis with a four-year, hands-on entrepreneurship training and college preparation program that makes school engaging and relevantand consequently motivates students to succeed.
It's working. To date, 99 percent of BUILD seniors have graduated from high school and been accepted to college.
BUILD has ambitious goals for continued success and national growth, and is seeking a Vice President of Development and Communications (VPD) to help shape its strategic vision and aggressively grow its funding. The VPD will oversee all aspects of fundraising for the organization, including foundations, corporations, individual donors, and events on a national basis. The VPD will be a critical member of the National Executive Team and will report directly to the President, working closely with the National Board of Directors and the CEO to ensure that development, marketing, and communications strategies align with the strategic plan and support growth and long-term financial sustainability.
The VPD will be responsible for driving a strategy to secure approximately $40M in funding over the next five years. The VPD will have responsibility for the following areas:
Effectively leading and growing the BUILD National Development Team, which is currently comprised of: Director of National Events, Director of Individual Giving, Manager of Development Database & Digital Communications, Manager of National Partnerships, and a Development Associate
Designing and implementing a fundraising and communication strategy that supports development and programmatic goals and builds brand awareness in the regions and within appropriate national circles
Serving as a key member of the National Executive Team charged with leading the implementation of revenue generation and marketing strategies
Nurturing a culture of fundraising throughout BUILD, ensuring that team members across the organization participate in and support fundraising initiatives and goals
Working closely with the President and Founder/CEO to design and implement an enhanced donor stewardship strategy, identify and cultivate new donors and funding sources, and implement a successful impact campaign
Providing leadership, guidance, and support to Regional Executive Directors around their fundraising goals
Implementing best practices for a non-profit with a growing budget and impact with an especially strong focus on systems
Ensuring appropriate and effective use of and improvement to the donor database to meet the organizations communication and fund raising goals
Passionate commitment to BUILD's mission, vision, and strategic direction
Minimum of 10 or more years of professional experience with a proven track record of securing six- and seven-figure, multi-year commitments from a variety of funding sources
Experience leading a significant national development effort ($10M annually) with innovative stewardship strategies and best in class systems
The ability to create, articulate, and implement fundraising plans and strategies that generate impressive results
Team leadership experience, including the ability to manage and coach team members while establishing individual accountability within a collaborative, goal-driven environment
Exceptional interpersonal and communications skills; including the ability to develop and strengthen internal and external relationships and serve as a compelling spokesperson for BUILD in person and on paper
Excellent project and process management skills and attention to detail
Demonstrated experience leveraging fundraising databases (preferably Salesforce) to manage day-to-day tasks and track long-term strategic planning
Ability to thrive effectively and efficiently in a creative, dynamic, deadline-driven environment with grace and laughter
Bachelor's degree required; advance degree preferred

Thoroughness - Ensure that one's own and others' work and information are complete and accurate; carefully prepare for meetings and presentations; follow up with others to ensure that agreements and commitments have been fulfilled
