CFY is a national education nonprofit that helps students in low-income communities, together with their teachers and families, harness the power of digital learning to improve educational outcomes.
CFY pursues this mission through the combination of its groundbreaking K-12 learning platform, PowerMyLearning.com, and its on-the-ground direct service initiative, the CFY Digital Learning Program.
PowerMyLearning® makes best-in-class digital learning activities easily accessible and usable to meet the full range of K-12 learning needs. It is an integral part of CFY's Digital Learning Program which is conducted in partnership with low-income public schools to increase home technology access, extend learning beyond the classroom, and deeply engage parents in the learning process. The program provides training for teachers, students, and their parents along with a free broadband-ready home computer loaded with educational software and 24×7 bilingual help desk support.
To date, CFY has served more than 50,000 families from 100 schools nationwide and has demonstrated significant impact on student achievement, student engagement, parental confidence, and broadband adoption.
The Senior Manager, Development will play a pivotal role in driving the sustainability and fundraising efforts of CFY-Los Angeles in close collaboration with the Co-Director and the CFY National Development and Communications team.
The Senior Manager, Development reports directly to the CFY-Los Angeles Co-Director.
Lead Sustainability Efforts
Lead the execution of CFY-Los Angeles' strategic sustainability plan, working closely with the Co-Director
Help identify new opportunities (foundation grants, major gifts, board member prospects, and government opportunities) and work with the CFY National Development and Communications team to conduct research and manage workflow process
Strategize how to secure meetings to pursue opportunities, leverage the connections of board members and other CFY constituents, and work with the Co-Director on executing that strategy
Work closely with the Co-Director to prepare for meetings, including collecting relevant information, customizing CFY's approach and message, and engaging in role plays
Track next steps for development outcomes, ghost-write emails and other messages, document meeting notes in Salesforce (customer relationship management platform), and record all touch-points with external constituents in Salesforce; also track relationships among constituents.
Take on special projects that are analytical and/or tactical in nature as they relate to sustainability/fundraising
In coordination with national grant writing team, assist with proposal development and grant writing for foundation and corporate prospects
Accurately and faithfully track constituent records and opportunities in Salesforce (customer relationship management platform)
Ensure a High-Performing Team
Manage up, by being proactive and keeping manager informed of changing priorities
Understand and communicate CFY's mission to staff, clients, donors, and other stakeholders
Actively solicit positive and constructive feedback from supervisor and other team members
Attend training, including in-house training; be prepared to discuss concepts learned with team members, find ways to apply learning at CFY-Los Angeles
Model and hold other staff members accountable to CFY-Los Angeles Cultural Values
Contribute to a strong, outcomes-focused performance culture within the team
Handle confidential and non-routine information with sensitivity
Support CFY Program to Yield Outstanding Results
Collaborate with program staff as needed, particularly around VIP visits, to achieve mutual success.
Other duties as necessary, including attendance at evening and Saturday program events as needed during the school year (approximately 2-3 times) with comp time to be used the following week.
Passion for CFY's mission
At least five years of demonstrated experience and success in development, fundraising, or sales
Strong project management skills
Experience with research and relationship mapping
Exceptional strategic thinking and analytical skills
Strong knowledge of the following:
o Los Angeles-based foundations and major gifts
o Board development and management
Experience with customer relationship management (CRM) databases
Strong ability to prioritize and manage-up
Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
Flexibility and ability to adapt to rapid change
Proven organizational and problem-solving skills
Proven skills managing multiple details
Demonstrated ability to work independently and with minimal oversight
Exceptional interpersonal and teamwork skills, including a sense of humor
Fundraising experience in education-related organizations
Proficiency in Salesforce
Experience in communications development
