      Aspire Public Schools is a nonprofit organization that currently operates 34 high-performing, open-enrollment public charter schools serving 12,000 students in underserved communities across California and will open schools in Memphis, TN in fall, 2013. Aspire is one of the highest-performing public school systems in California, delivering a rigorous `College for Certain' education to students in grades K-12. An unrelenting focus on college preparedness led to 100 percent of graduating Aspire seniors being accepted to four year colleges or universities in 2010, 2011 and 2012.       The Area Superintendent has overall responsibility for the academic, operational, and fiscal performance for all schools in his/her region. Directly supervises principals to ensure strong school performance and school culture. Collaborates with regional and statewide systems/representatives to gain support of our schools. Fosters a positive regional climate that is representative of Aspire's core values, ensuring solid relationships within the region and community, with the National Home Office, and across the organization at large.


      • Oversee school sites, with ultimate responsibility for academic, fiscal and operational performance.
      • Develop and lead Principals in their roles as instructional leaders and site managers.
      • Ensure high quality implementation of Aspire education design, including standards, assessments, instructional guidelines, and culture; assist in refining the Aspire education design to improve student achievement.
      • Determine priorities for region in collaboration with the Senior Leadership Team.
      • Manage opening of new schools in alignment with growth targets.
      • Act as liaison with National Home Office staff to ensure school sites receive necessary support, as well as to hold school leaders accountable to compliance.
      • Recruit highly qualified Principals, educators and Regional Office staff; develop and appraise staff effectively; address performance as necessary on a timely basis; consult with Human Resources as appropriate.
      • Cultivate relationships with local district and city officials and community leaders to further Aspire and individual school goals; manage the charter approval/renewal process.
      • Develops a pipeline of future Aspire leaders for the organization.
      • Maintains a strong, affiliated Aspire culture that is central on core values and cultural tenants.
      • Demonstrate knowledge of, and support, Aspire Public Schools mission, vision, value statements, standards, policies and procedures, operating instructions, confidentiality standards, and the code of ethical behavior.
      • Performs other related duties as required and assigned.

      1) Required knowledge, skills & abilities:

      • Demonstrated success as an instructional leader and in the professional development of teachers and principals
      • Demonstrated command of the intricacies of school operations and planning
      • Exceptional management skills including planning, directing, reporting, budgeting and administrative responsibilities
      • Knowledge of characteristics of successful schools and how to implement them
      • Knowledge of California school finance
      • Strong problem analysis and problem resolution at both a strategic and functional level
      • Proven leadership skills with the ability to attract, develop and inspire a team; exceptional ability to bridge and enhance cooperative working relationships
      • Demonstrated P&L responsibility
      • Entrepreneurial passion

      2) Minimum educational level:

      • Master's Degree or Ph.D. in education

      3) Experience required:

      • 5+ years teaching
      • 2+ years in school administration at the district level
      • 5+ years experience as a principal
