Study Smart Tutors SAT and ACT prep is seeking intelligent, hardworking, and
charismatic individuals with teaching experience. Study Smart Tutors works with
university outreach organizations to provide efficient and effective SAT and ACT
prep geared towards first generation college-bound students from low income
We would like to hire instructors to help lead our SAT prep courses in San
Francisco. This is a part time contractor position beginning on January 14.
The candidate does NOT need to be an expert in SAT or ACT prep. Rather more
emphasis will be placed on the candidate's overall teaching ability as our
materials are designed to be taught by teachers of all subjects.
Minimum pay for independent teaching is $45/hour. Sessions will be a minimum of
2 hours in length.
A qualified candidate should have the following:
-A Bachelor's degree (A Master's degree is desirable, but not required)
-At least one year's experience teaching, interning, or working with students at
the high school level.
-Ability to command the respect of a classroom of high school students.
-Ability to relate to high school students to effectively communicate material.
-Ability to arrive to class 30 minutes before start time. No exceptions.
-Access to a personal laptop computer and a vehicle.
-Comfortable using PowerPoint to supplement lessons.
-Be available to work on Saturdays and/or weekday afternoons.
Expectations if selected:
-Initial video or phone interview (preferably through Skype)
-One hour training on using our materials and lessons plans.
-30 minutes of prep for each session taught.
-Two hours of observed teaching.
-Will be observed until candidate demonstrates ability to be independent
(usually 1-2 sessions).
