Ceiba Public Schools is a nonprofit charter management organization committed to closing the college-readiness gap for historically underserved students.
Our first school, Ceiba College Prep Middle, is in its fifth year of operation and currently serves 265 students in grades 6-8. Ceiba has an Academic Performance Index (API) of 845, a 97% parent satisfaction rate, and is ranked #1 of the 100 most demographically similar schools in California. Ceiba Middle School feeds into Ceiba High School, which currently serves 120 students in grades 9-10 as it ladders into a 9-12 program. Both schools are located in downtown Watsonville, a small city in southern Santa Cruz County.
At Ceiba, every student is prepared for college success through the cultivation of creativity, effort, integrity, benevolence, and assertiveness (C-E-I-B-A). Our program is based on explicit and ambitious expectations for student achievement, a small school feel offering personalized attention, an extended school day and school year, a challenging academic course load including art and physical education, and a positive, structured school environment. DESCRIPTION & RESPONSIBILITIES
The School Leader, with support from the Home Office and Assistant Principal, must model and instill a high level of urgency that ensures every student acquires the academic skills and cultural acumen necessary to succeed in college and in life. The School Leader will be responsible for using data to inform cycles of improvement, developing and implementing a disciplined planning process, providing instructional support to faculty, planning and leading staff development, and overseeing parent involvement and community building at the school.
School Culture & Personnel
Establish a positive, small school feel centered around C-E-I-B-A Values (creativity, effort, integrity, benevolence, and assertiveness)
Foster an environment that engages students in collaboration, exploration and self-reflection
Maintain Ceiba's school-wide behavior accountability system
Ensure effective communication with families with respect to student academic performance, student conduct, school programs and school performance
Create a collaborative professional environment in which staff regularly reflect on and refine curriculum and instruction through the use of data, student work, observation and experience
Oversee selection and onboarding of staff, including teachers and school-based support staff
Continually monitor progress across all measures of school and staff performance
Support and expect excellence from each student and staff member at the school
Lead staff orientation and onboarding
Coach, manage, and evaluate the teaching team in collaboration with the Assistant Principal and Department Heads
Design professional development plans for teachers to build on strengths and address deficits, including regular observations and objective feedback
Manage a data-driven instructional process, including the development of standards-driven year-long plans before the school year starts, rigorous interim assessments that are effectively aligned with year-end assessments and college readiness, and regular discussions about student performance
Set ambitious achievement goals and support students in pursuit of those objectives
Work with teachers to continuously drive student achievement
Ensure that the school supports and challenges all students
School Management & Administration
Develop organizational goals and objectives consistent with the mission and vision of Ceiba Public Schools
Develop and implement plans and systems that identify, manage and monitor school goals, school growth and school priorities
Develop a budget in collaboration with the home office to ensure alignment with school priorities
Work with the Home Office Staff and Assistant Principal to optimize school operations
Bachelor's degree required; Graduate degree preferred
Demonstrated leadership in the classroom, including a track record of significant student
achievement gains with at-risk youth
Exceptional organization, time management, and follow-through skills
Bilingual Spanish preferred
Prior school administrative experience preferred
