      The Bay Area Coalition for Equitable Schools (BayCES) seeks a full-
      time Associate Director in our Downtown Oakland office.

      BayCES is a nonprofit organization that assists schools, school
      districts, and community groups in the work of creating or
      redesigning schools to produce higher and more equitable
      achievement. The mission of BayCES is to create and sustain a
      network of high achieving and equitable small schools. BayCES
      fulfills its mission by recruiting, developing and supporting
      teacher, administrative, and community leaders through on-site
      coaching, equity-centered professional development, new school
      incubation, and networking services.

      BayCES has 38 staff members, and is a nationally recognized leader
      in education reform. A recipient of a multimillion dollar grant from
      the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, BayCES works with schools,
      districts and communities in Oakland, Berkeley, Emeryville and San
      Francisco.

      POSITION SUMMARY:

      The Associate Director is responsible for managing operations and
      programs, including programmatic development, integration,
      coordination and management. The Associate Director will be
      responsible for BayCES' strategic planning and budget, and will
      oversee all contract and earned revenue. The Associate Director
      reports to the Executive Director, and will be a member of the
      Management Team.

      RESPONSIBILITIES:

      • Implement and monitor BayCES' strategic plan, including the
      development of annual budgeting and planning procedures.

      • Manage, coordinate and monitor BayCES programmatic work. Create
      processes to build more efficient program structures and systems,
      including decision-making procedures, workplan monitoring, inter-
      program communications, and event calendaring procedures.

      • Work with Executive Director and program directors to ensure
      coherent management of organization. Manage resources for
      organization, including staff and financial resources.

      • Collaborate with program directors to develop coherent and
      coordinated workplans, goals and objectives, as well as annual and
      long-range strategic plans for BayCES programs. Manage the work of
      the Program Directors Collaborative, including meeting planning,
      facilitation and follow-up.

      • Oversee operations and finances for organization, including
      supervision of operations and finance staff. Manage systems for
      overseeing all contract and earned revenue.

      • Manage human resources systems, including development of
      organization-wide performance review processes. Create and implement
      systems to supervise the work of school-based coaches and office
      staff.

      • Facilitate and evaluate biweekly Management Team meetings.

      • Supervise program directors.

      REQUIREMENTS:

      • Significant leadership experience and skills, preferably in a
      nonprofit organization. Skills should include organizational
      development, personnel management, budget and resource development,
      and strategic planning. A graduate degree in management is highly
      desirable.

      • Experience designing and implementing complex programs
      involving
      high levels of collaboration and staff autonomy.

      • Demonstrated leadership in planning and managing organizational
      growth and change.

      • Demonstrated success developing and monitoring systems to
      manage programmatic work.

      • Experience supervising programmatic staff and establishing
      effective systems for accountability.

      • Demonstrated flexibility and resourcefulness in helping
      organizations adjust to rapidly changing political, economic, fiscal
      and social environments.

      • Demonstrated success working in a multiracial, multiethnic
      environment with cultural competence and good "people" skills.
