      Founded in 2006, Rocketship Education (www.rsed.org) is a California-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation whose mission is to eliminate the achievement gap by building a national school system of K-5 charter schools. Rocketship Education is the leading public school system for low-income elementary students.       The Position

      The Vice President of Instruction is a full-time, exempt position that reports to the President and will be a member of the executive management team. The VP will provide strategic direction and manage our instructional and professional development systems in order to drive exceptional student achievement results. The VP of Instruction will drive the innovation and re-imagination of what is possible in elementary education, including integrating technology and tutoring into Rocketship's classrooms to improve individualization and critical thinking.

      The VP of Instruction will be instrumental in all instructional, professional development, and blended learning activities, including, systems thinking for instruction, tutoring, online learning, direct instruction, critical thinking, and data analysis and reporting. He/She will play a critical role as the instructional leader and change agent strengthening all aspects of the organization's academic management and instructional planning activities with a strong emphasis on strengthening Rocketship's academic performance and supporting its ambitious expansion plans.

      This position is based in the Bay Area, California.


      Responsibilities

      •Define a clear vision and plan for the way day to day instruction will occur in our blended classrooms including roles of teachers, use of time, curriculum, etc.
      •Set academic targets and report on progress to enable effective management of schools and support strategic planning.
      •Ensure that "what we know" about students is as precise, timely, and actionable as possible through daily assessments and analytics.
      •Ensure outstanding results for our Rocketeers as measured by increases of s % Advanced by 5 percentage points in Math and ELA every year until we reach 100% in both subjects.
      •Ensure that online and offline curricula are aligned to common core standards and are made accessible to teachers allowing for efficient and effective pacing, sequencing and lesson planning.
      •Oversee assessment and analysis of student data to identify gaps and strong practices.
      •Collaborate with regional leadership of schools to manage and support schools to high performance.
      •Ensure that teachers have the support and professional development that they need to effectively facilitate online learning, tutoring, direct instruction and extension projects.
      •Expand Rocketship's Instructional Model to further address higher order thinking and the ability to assess, monitor, and further develop critical thinking and leadership skills within all Rocketeers.
      •Expand the support capacity of the national academic organization from a single region today to 10 regions over the next five years, providing the tools, controls, and systems necessary to enable regional achievement teams and schools to be able to ensure that all schools are high performing.

      Required Qualifications

      •Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree and at least seven years of experience in instructional/academic positions of increasing scope and responsibilities, including time spent as a teacher or school leader.
      •Demonstrable experience leading instructional and academic functions in a high growth school system.
      •Experience designing academic systems rather than solely implementing or executing.
      •Solid track record of realizing strong levels of student achievement in a school or school system.
      •Blended learning or instructional technology interest given its importance to Rocketship's academic model.
      •Very strong written and communication skills.
