Start-Up Charter School in Oakland Seeks Instructional Leader/
      Education Director

OASIS, which plans to open in fall 2004 in downtown Oakland, will
provide a rigorous educational alternative to young people who have
dropped out of Oakland's traditional public high schools. OASIS
has received a $450,000 grant from the State to open its school, and
is now in the process of finalizing its Charter.

OASIS seeks an Instructional Leader/Education Director who is
committed to improving public education. Energy and enthusiasm are a
must, as working with traditionally underserved high school students
will be both exciting and challenging. An Instructional
Leader/Education Director who is comfortable in a start-up
environment is preferred. Believing that all students can achieve at
      high levels is essential.

The Instructional Leader/Education Director should be credentialed
and should have at least 7 years teaching experience. The successful
candidate will have experience in an urban high school setting.
He/she also will have held a school leadership position.

The Instructional Leader/Education Director will be responsible for
the academic program at OASIS. The Instructional Leader/Education
Director will provide proactive, comprehensive and facilitative
leadership in planning and implementing the school curriculum. The
Instructional Leader/Education Director will manage all instructional
staff, and will oversee student assessment, professional development
and evaluation of teachers. During the early years of the school,
the Instructional Leader/Education Director will have some teaching
      responsibilities.

The Instructional Leader/Education Director will have a unique
opportunity, along with the Executive Director, to establish and
direct an exciting learning environment in Oakland. The position is
best suited to a person who has an interest and expertise in
curriculum and instruction and who can bring entrepreneurial thinking
and strategic vision to an academic setting.

We are strongly committed to hiring a diverse and multicultural
staff, and offer competitive salaries and benefits.
