      Summary:
      University Academy, an established 1,000 student K-12 college preparatory charter public school in Kansas City, Missouri, seeks a visionary, skilled, and passionate Chief Executive Officer/Superintendent to oversee all aspects of the school, leading it to the highest levels of student achievement and strengthening University Academy's reputation of excellence.

      The CEO/Superintendent position is a critical leadership role with responsibility for three divisions – lower, middle, and high school – each headed by a principal. The CEO/Superintendent has ultimate responsibility for keeping the school focused on its mission by providing organizational and instructional leadership and implementing programming and strategic initiatives as directed by the board.

      Ideal candidates will be distinguished educators with a demonstrated track record of improving academic achievement, building and strengthening school cultures, excellent team and operational management skills, an understanding of key models and practices of high performing urban charter schools and/or private college preparatory schools, and a deep passion for ensuring that all students have access to high quality education.

      All University Academy students are expected to go to and graduate from college
      Responsibilities:
      The CEO/Supertintendent's responsibilities include the following areas:

      Instructional Leadership/Student Achievement

      Ensure University Academy (UA) has a world class college-preparatory curriculum
      Manage, evaluate, and develop administrative and teaching team
      Implement programs to improve administrator and teacher performance (professional development, coaching, etc.)
      Ensure administrators are working with teachers to constantly assess and improve student achievement
      Ensure administrative team is using data to analyze student performance and develop programs that address student needs
      Keep abreast of instructional best practices at other highly successful schools to try and/or implement at University Academy
      Ensure students at all levels are prepared to do well on assessments (MAP, SAT 10, ACT, SAT, etc.)
      Ensure school meets or exceeds yearly student achievement goals including meeting and exceeding No Child Left Behind benchmarks
      Ensure students are being exposed in and out of school through various programs (e.g. speaker series, field trips, mentors, community service, college visits etc.)

      Organizational Leadership

      Supervise and mentor administrative team (including three principals, CFO, Director of HR, and additional operational, facilities, and academic staff)
      Lead administrators and teachers in developing a mission-based culture that promotes teamwork and collaboration among staff, teachers, students, and families/guardians
      Foster a school climate that supports student and staff success and promotes respect and appreciation for all and fosters an orderly learning environment
      Oversee all programs, services, and activities to ensure that program objectives are met
      Ensure the safety of all students, staff, and visitors

      Operational Leadership and Human Resources

      Oversee budget development with CFO and input from board
      Oversee management of facilities maintenance and repairs, transportation, and food service operations
      Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal laws and regulations
      Oversee management of school records
      Recruit and retain talented and motivated teachers, administrators, and staff
      Ensure legal hiring and termination procedures
      Oversee any and all disciplinary actions
      Ensure adequate supervision, training, and evaluation of all administrators, teachers, and staff

      Board of Directors

      Collaborate closely with the Board of Directors to realize the school's vision and mission
      Seek and accept board input on programming and strategic initiatives at the school, including being open to robust discussion and constructive feedback
      Work with the board to develop and execute against annual goals and provide the board with detailed information on progress toward meeting those goals
      Keep board apprised of important situations and updates
      Implement board policy and board directives

      Communications, Community Relations, and Development

      Communicate UA's mission, vision, and goals as well as success stories and achievement to a range of internal and external stakeholders
      Act as the champion of UA's high expectations and rigorous standards by communicating that: a) All students can achieve at the highest levels b) All UA students are expected to go to college c) UA will promote students to the next grade only when they can demonstrate the required knowledge
      Ensure good relations with UA's various community stakeholders (e.g. external partners, donors, community members)
      Oversee timely creation of an annual report each year
      Participate in fundraising initiatives as requested, including collaborating with Friends of University Academy (www.friendsofua.org), a separate 501c3 that supports special education opportunities for UA students and alumni

      Qualifications:
      Strong CEO/SUPERINTENDENT candidates will have a track record of success as a school leader and administrator in the charter school sector or comparable public and/or private school, as well as exceptional communications and executive management skills. Other desired skills and characteristics include:

      The highest level of personal and professional integrity and ethical values
      Superb critical thinking and decision making skills
      In-depth knowledge of and experience with college preparatory curriculum and course offerings across the K-12 spectrum
      Commitment to quality education for all students and an unwavering focus on student achievement
      Experience working with diverse populations
      Commitment to and experience with data-driven decision making
      Deep experience in school operations (finance and accounting, human resources, and charter-specific issues)
      Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively and productively with students, parents, teachers, administrators, board members, and other stakeholders
      Ability to set organizational and individual goals, measure progress, and hold people accountable
      Ability to serve as a compelling spokesperson and advocate for UA
      Knowledge of the greater charter school movement, including best practices and models
      An inspirational leader who is able to bring a diverse audience together around a vision and common goals
      Minimum academic qualification: Master's degree by start date

      Compensation and Benefits:
