      Associate Partner

      ORGANIZATION
      NewSchools Venture Fund is a venture philanthropy fund working to
      transform education for underserved children by supporting education
      entrepreneurs who create high-quality education ventures, and by
      providing thought leadership across traditional boundaries to ensure
      that results-oriented, systemic change is accomplished.

      NewSchools is a national organization headquartered in San Francisco.
      We are opening a new East Coast office in Boston, where this position
      is located.

      LOCATION
      Boston, MA

      POSITION OVERVIEW
      The Associate Partner is a member of the Venture Team. The Associate
      Partner's role is primarily to cultivate, assess and support
      investment opportunities that are consistent with NewSchools'
      mission and strategy. This includes reviewing incoming business
      plans, conducting due diligence, making investment recommendations,
      providing management assistance, and refining our ongoing investment
      strategy.

      In addition, NewSchools maintains close relationships with a number
      of funders, and is in the process of raising a new fund. The
      Associate Partner will therefore participate in fundraising
      activities and help manage key donor relationships.

      REPORTING RELATIONSHIP
      The Associate Partner will report directly to our Boston-based
      Partner.

      KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
      Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to:

      VENTURE DEVELOPMENT AND SUPPORT
      · Work with the NewSchools venture team to develop, refine and
      communicate organizational and fund strategy, goals, and performance
      · Seek, develop and assess new investment opportunities that are
      consistent with our strategies and goals
      · Present recommendations to the NewSchools' venture team,
      Board and Investment Partners
      · Provide management assistance to early-stage ventures and portfolio
      organizations in their efforts to achieve interim milestones and
      longer term organizational goals. Work closely with NewSchools'
      Partners and portfolio organizations' board members to provide
      support and oversight

      NETWORK
      · Work with the NewSchools venture team on fundraising activities,
      as required
      · Maintain strong partnerships with donors
      · Assist in the management and development of the NewSchools
      network by representing NewSchools at conferences, meetings and
      networking events
      · Work as an integral part of the team that hosts an annual Summit
      event, and smaller portfolio-related events, as required

      OTHER
      · Provide guidance, assistance and development support to
      NewSchools' analysts, as required

      REQUIRED SKILLS / CORE COMPETENCIES

      WORKING STYLE AND PERSONAL QUALITIES
      · Demonstrated commitment to the improvement of public education
      · Ability to manage multiple priorities and high ambiguity
      · Ability to take initiative and own high priority tasks and
      projects; a "self-starter"
      · Management and operating style suited to working in a
      small-office setting with limited support staff, where teamwork and
      resourcefulness are highly valued
      · Personal presence and communication skills necessary to effectively
      interact with investment partners, portfolio companies, for-profit
      and nonprofit organizations, and NewSchools team
      · Proven ability to learn quickly and continuously
      · Willingness to travel at moderate levels

      PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS AND PREFERRED EXPERIENCE(S)
      · 1-2 years work experience in an operating capacity in an
      education-organization preferred
      · Experience working with schools/charter schools preferred
      · Quantitative and qualitative analytical skills in order to
      assess investment opportunities; investing or due diligence skills
      preferred
      · Quantitative and qualitative analytical skills in order to
      understand, breakdown and address complex problems from conception
      through implementation – a strong strategic thinker
      · Superb writing skills
      · Outstanding verbal communication skills
      · Proficiency in financial modeling and financial statement
      analysis
      · Effective project management skills
      · Experience working in a start-up, entrepreneurial, and/or fast-
      paced environment

      EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
      · A graduate degree in business, education, and/or public policy
