Based in Seattle, Education First Consulting¡¦s area of expertise is K¡V16 education, with extensive work on issues related to college readiness, standards and assessments, teacher effectiveness and high school reform; our mission is to help all students finish high school armed with the skills and knowledge to succeed in college and careers. Position Responsibilities ¡V Policy Analyst
Policy Analysts lead research efforts and support project teams to deliver outstanding work to education clients. The primary responsibilities of the Policy Analyst include:
X Gather, organize and synthesize existing research; identify and interview key informants; analyze education policy options; develop fact-based yet persuasive analyses.
X Deploy specialized education knowledge of research findings; federal and state policies; and effective practices in key education reform areas.
X Organize and process large volumes of work under tight deadlines.
X Lead key portions of projects.
X Develop ¡§client-ready¡¨ PowerPoint presentations, policy memos, briefs, reports, strategy documents and other products drawing from documentation and research work. Assist in researching and writing materials for publication.
Education First believes in coaching and supporting its staff to meet their full potential. Over time, the Policy Analyst will be expected and supported to develop skills in strategic planning/business planning for clients, project management and client management.
Experience & Qualifications
X One to three years of experience in education policy, political campaigns or other relevant public affairs experience.
X Demonstrated understanding of current education reform issues, especially in the areas of: standards, curriculum, assessment, data and accountability policies; high school redesign; reading, math and science reforms; transitions to postsecondary education; college persistence and success; teacher and principal effectiveness; early education; charter school policy and new school development; and/or expanded learning time and other student supports.
X Strong qualitative research skills and experience, including environmental scans, literature reviews, legislative/policy analysis, field documentation and/or synthesis.
X Strong organizational, word processing, email, spreadsheets and database skills and oral and written communication skills.
X Outstanding project management, public speaking and client communications skills.
X Demonstrated experience working effectively on teams and with diverse constituencies.
X Ability to manage multiple projects under tight deadlines.
X Master¡¦s in public policy, public administration, business, education, JD or related fields preferred.
X A strong commitment to improving student learning and achievement and moving education systems beyond the status quo.
X Highly organized and a detail-oriented self-starter.
X Flexible, resourceful and good humored.
X Ability and desire to work independently in a virtual office environment
Though we work in a virtual environment, preference will be given to candidates living in or willing to relocate to the Seattle, WA, or Portland, OR, areas.
Education First Consulting offers a competitive salary, benefits and profit sharing. The approximate salary base range is $40,000-60,000 depending on experience and education level.
