Apply Now to Become an Urban Public School Principal!
Priority Application Deadline is February 17th, 2009- 2 weeks from today!

      Organization Description:
Great schools are led by great principals. New Leaders for New
Schools is a national non-profit that ensures high academic
achievement for every student by attracting and preparing outstanding
leaders and supporting the performance of the urban public schools
they lead. New Leaders currently has 567 leaders serving over 280,000
students across the nation. Additional information about New Leaders
for New Schools can be found on our website: www.nlns.org.

      Position Description:
New Leaders aggressively recruits extremely talented individuals to
become urban public school principals. Through a combination of
rigorous coursework delivered by nationally recognized experts, a
full-time year-long residency with a strong mentor principal, and
intensive work with successful veteran principals, New Leaders get
unique preparation to enter the urban principalship. At the end of the
year, we help place our participants in urban public schools and
provide them with ongoing support, networking, and a lifelong
      community of peers.

New Leaders commit to serving in their school districts for 6 years as
an urban public school principal. In return, New Leaders receive
approximately $100,000 in coursework, instruction, and support at no
cost to them. Additionally, residents are paid directly by the school
districts or charter systems for which they work and receive the same
salaries and health benefits as assistant principals.

      Qualifications:
Our New Leaders are diverse in every respect and come from varied
      backgrounds. However, successful candidates have:
      - An unyielding belief and sense of urgency to ensure that all
students achieve academically at high levels,
      - A relentless drive to lead an excellent urban public school,
      - Instructional expertise in a K-12 classroom,
      - Exceptional leadership skills, and
      - The ability to achieve in the face of obstacles.

All applicants must meet our rigorous Selection Criteria
      (http://www.nlns.org/Criteria.jsp). There are minimum application
requirements that vary by program city, as well. In California’s Bay
      Area, applicants must have:

      - A minimum of 3 years of full-time teaching experience in a
      K-12 classroom
      - A bachelor's degree
      - A California Teaching Credential or an out of state teaching
      credential

Note: Out of state credentials can be transferred to California with
      no additional work

Potential candidates for the New Leaders program in the Bay Area who
do not meet the above requirements may still apply if they possess a
bachelor's degree and have three years of K-12 teaching experience.
However, if accepted, these candidates will not become certified and
will only be eligible to become principals in charter schools (where
      certification is not required).
