      Academic Dean – BTSA Support – A.P. History Teacher

       

      Leadership Public Schools' mission is to prepare students to succeed in college and to develop effective student leaders. We offer small schools so that students have more one-on-one time with teachers along with a four year leadership advisory program in which students take responsibility for their lives and improve their community. LPS operates small, innovative, high-performing public high schools serving educationally and economically disadvantaged urban students. LPS is an award winning, nonprofit with a deep commitment to students who will be first generation college graduates.

       

      We have a current opportunity for a long-term Teaching Administrator for January – June 2009 to cover a maternity leave at our LPS Richmond campus.

       

      Responsibilities

      Your responsibilities as a 20% Teacher and 80% Academic Support Provider include:

       

      Teacher

      • teaching AP American History academic class
      • facilitating the Leadership program
      • attending scheduled IEP meetings
      • offering supplemental student support not to exceed one hour per week
      • participating in professional development and collaborations including a minimum of three hours weekly and remaining professional development days
      • participating in parent conferences, enrollment outreach sessions, parent association meetings, and at least one school committee

       

      Academic Dean

      • providing academic support to designated teachers
      • serving on the LPS Richmond administrative team
      • supporting curriculum development and implementation
      • using data to guide instruction and helping teachers to effectively use data
      • supporting the Leadership Advisory program
      • leading professional development and collaborations
      • fostering a college-going environment

       

      BTSA Induction Coach

      • guiding up to 5 participating teachers through the formative assessment process, facilitating their professional growth, and assisting them in meeting completion requirements for the BTSA Induction Program and Level II Professional Credential
      • meeting at least one hour each week with each participating teacher
      • assisting in completion, collection, and submission of evidence for the PT Portfolio
      • conducting informal and formal classroom observations of the participating teacher as part of the formative assessment process, maintaining confidentiality and understanding that this information may not be used for evaluation purposes
      • participating in FAS Training, Support Provider Forums, and other professional development activities
      • participating in the BTSA Induction Program evaluation and reporting process
      • modeling lessons and instructional strategies for teachers
      • fulfilling other duties or other assignments as needed in order to best serve our students.

       

      Qualifications

      ·    Commitment to working with a diverse population in an urban school

      ·    High expectations for all students

      ·    Effective high school teaching and leadership experience

      ·    CA Clear credential

      ·    Academic expertise; preferably an advanced degree

      ·    Excellent communicator and facilitator

      ·    Strong commitment to the LPS mission and values

      ·    Comfortable with a start-up environment, including fast growth and flexible roles
