      Job Description: Early Childhood Literacy and Science Education Coach

      SRI International is seeking experienced early childhood educators to
      conduct field work for a 10-week pilot study of a national early
      literacy and science program targeting four-year old children in
      formal child care settings.

      Position responsibilities
      • Provide an initial orientation for staff at early childhood centers
      to the study and the program
      • Provide information about the study to center administrators and parents
      • Provide training in the use of program materials and completion of
      weekly log forms for teachers participating in this study
      • Conduct 6 visits over a 10-week period to each classroom to lead
      (and model) activities that are part of the program
      • Provide coaching and explanation of the activities to staff of the
      early childhood centers when making visits to classrooms
      • Coordinate schedule with SRI liaison and make all travel
      arrangements for visits to centers
      • Monitor and assist with completion and timely submission of
      implementation logs from each class
      • Maintain regular contact with centers throughout the study to answer
      questions and solve problems related to the program, referring issues
      to study leaders as appropriate
      • Communicate weekly with SRI liaison regarding progress at individual
      centers
      • Attend a 2-day training session in late 2008/early 2009 to prepare
      for responsibilities in the study

      Qualifications
      The ideal candidate for this position will have a minimum of 2 years
      experience in an early childhood education role. Educators with
      knowledge of early literacy instruction are also encouraged to apply.
      Applicants must have a valid driver license and transport themselves
      to centers in the study. Applicants must be willing to complete all
      security measures required by centers in the study. Working knowledge
      of Spanish is a plus.

      Positions of both 20 and 40 hours per week are available, with work
      performed from January 2009 through April 2009. Applicants must be
      available during these months and must work with the SRI liaison to
      accommodate the availability of centers for coaching visits.


      Compensation
      Coaches will earn $40 per hour and be compensated for mileage/public
      transportation fare and time for their travel to and from centers. Pay
      is not to exceed $3,200 per classroom. Each coach can work with a
      maximum of 7 classrooms and can earn up to a total of $18,000 during
      the study period.
