Organization Description: The Partnership for Los Angeles Schools
("The Partnership") is a new nonprofit organization committed to the
transformation of Los Angeles public schools so that all children in
Los Angeles graduate from high school prepared for college and
careers. Started by Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, The
Partnership will work with a wide cross-section of groups and
individuals that represent the varied interests of Los Angeles to
develop and implement new education reforms that will lead to
remarkable increases in student achievement.
The Partnership's work is structured around "families of schools,"
ideally including all of the schools in a particular feeder
pattern. A feeder pattern consists of a high school, its feeder
middle and elementary schools and may include related pre-K schools,
continuation schools and adult schools. The Partnership currently
serves and supports three families of schools in East LA and South
LA with close to 20,000 children.
Position Description and Responsibilities: The Partnership for Los
Angeles Schools is seeking a talented early-career professional to
help lead portions of The Partnership's school-based and home office
operations. School-based operations include services provided to
schools such as HR, budgeting, IT, a fee-for-service model for
operational services, transportation, food services and data
systems. These services will be dramatically redesigned under The
Partnership model and the Operations Coordinator will help support
this process with the Director of Operations and Chief Operating
Officer. The role will also lead the management of The
Partnership's home operations with the Chief Operating Officer,
including financial management, human resources, Board management,
IT and other areas.
This role is very important to the mission and success of The
Partnership and the position will help document lessons learned to
help improve all LAUSD schools at a broader scale. The position
will have exposure to public leaders across the City, region and

Support development of plan for how services in key operational
areas will be delivered to schools, principals, teachers, parents
and students by The Partnership, LAUSD and other service providers.
Operational areas might include school-based budgeting tools, HR,
IT, maintenance, a fee-for-service system, school-based data
systems, transportation, food services, and other key non-
pedagogical services provided to schools.
Perform analysis to develop key recommendations for managing
operational performance of The Partnership's home office and school
Develop profiles of best practices nationally in key operational
Work closely with divisions of LAUSD across all key functional
areas to ensure that services are provided to schools sites in an
efficient and effective manner.
Support the development of the strategy and implementation plan
for how services will be changed under Partnership schools beginning
in the 2008-09 school year and over the long-term.
Conduct research to inform performance expectations and metrics
Support development of clear accountability system in each service
area, including an operational "dashboard" to assess performance;
collect data to measure operational performance.
Work closely with LAUSD and external consultants to help define
Support the implementation of new operational capabilities for
Partnership schools (e.g., refined financial management tools).
Serve as a "rapid response" service team to immediately take care
of service needs at school sites.
Profile and manage key compliance requirements for The Partnership
and Partnership schools.
Manage all logistical elements of Partnership's home office,
including payroll, insurance, financial management, grant
accounting, technology, receivables and payables, and other areas.
Regularly brief The Partnership's senior management team on
At least 2-3 years of professional experience in operations,
nonprofit management and/or strategic planning.
Excellent interpersonal, data analysis and writing skills.
Strong analytical and writing skills.
Strong leadership and interpersonal skills.
A proven track record of consistently exceeding goals.
Education industry and/or legal experience a plus, a passion for
improving public education is a must!

Undergraduate degree required.
