      BACKGROUND:
      NewSchools Venture Fund™ is a national venture philanthropy fund
      working to transform public education for underserved children by
      supporting education entrepreneurs who create high-quality education
      ventures, and by providing thought leadership across traditional
      education boundaries to ensure that results-oriented, systemic change
      is accomplished. Founded in 1998, NewSchools has invested over $50M

      accelerating the growth of nonprofit charter school systems and on
      enhancing the capacity of school systems to produce high levels of
      student achievement through performance tools and human capital

      NewSchools' Co-Founder, in the role of Senior Advisor, is leading a
      portfolio of projects to continue to build the field of education
      entrepreneurship, including but not limited to: developing and
      launching a new leadership fellowship program in partnership with the
      Aspen Institute, incubating specific ventures (EG: executive search
      and organizational/talent development), serving on the boards of
      several educational ventures, writing and developing knowledge for
      the field, and teaching graduate classes on education
      entrepreneurship.

      POSITION OVERVIEW
      NewSchools is seeking a highly qualified individual to provide
      project management, some limited research support, and general
      administrative support to the Co-Founder/Senior Advisor.

      The Special Assistant will be responsible for:
      •coordination and project management for launch of a new leadership
      program for education entrepreneurs,
      •project management and research support for various venture
      incubation and board projects, and
      •coordination of all aspects of scheduling, travel, and
      administrative support for the Co-Founder/Senior Advisor.

      The position can be either 80% or full-time depending on level of
      experience, will be employed by NewSchools Venture Fund, but will
      work primarily with the Senior Advisor independent from the
      NewSchools team. The role requires advanced skill sets, and will also
      provide an opportunity for someone to be introduced to the landscape
      of entrepreneurial players working in national K-12 education, to
      work on high-impact projects to improve education, and interact with
      outstanding leaders and institutions across the country.

      REPORTING RELATIONSHIP
      The Assistant will report directly to the Co-Founder/Senior Advisor
      and will work with members of the NewSchools team as needed.
      Flexibility to work from home, Senior Advisor's home office, and the
      NewSchools office upon demonstration of good self-management.

      KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
      Fellowship Program Coordinator (50%)
      • Play a major role in planning, coordination, and execution of
      Fellowship related events (program events will take place in Aspen
      Colorado and Wye River Maryland)
      • Project manage the nomination and selection processes
      • Manage fellows correspondence
      • Manage web-based database (Salesforce.com) of all contact and
      content information for the program
      • Create and manage detailed work plan to coordinate various
      components of the program and contributors
      • Coordinate and interface with Aspen Institute counterparts as
      needed (including: assist in budget development and oversight,
      coordinate event planning, coordinate travel and logistical plans)
      • Assist in program fund raising and donor relations management

      Executive/personal assistant (30%)
      • Maintain the Senior Advisor's calendar via MS Outlook (coordinate
      scheduling of meetings and conference calls)
      • Coordinate travel arrangements and prepare expense reports
      • Assist with meeting notes and follow-up
      • Draft correspondence from Senior Advisor
      • Perform general administrative duties (EG: mail, coordinate with
      NewSchools technology support)
      • Organize and maintain hardcopy and electronic filing systems for
      retrieval of information
      • Assist with occasional personal errands

      Special projects (20%)
      • Conduct basic background research on people, organizations, and
      events
      • Assist with composing PowerPoint presentations and presentations
      for public speaking engagements
      • Assist with proofing of publications and collateral (e.g., checking
      facts and figures, formatting)
      • Help administer and update contacts and documents in our data
      management system (e.g., cleansing data to ensure accuracy; designing
      and producing special reports, maintaining contact categories, etc.)
      • Complete other special projects on an ad hoc basis

      CRITERIA FOR SELECTION
      Success in the position will require, but not be limited to, the
      following competencies:

      Communication and administrative skills
      • Ability to communicate effectively with a wide variety of people at
      all levels, internally and externally; ability to establish and
      maintain relationships with key contacts at all levels
      • Excellent writing skills
      • Strong organization skills and attention to detail
      • Proficiency in using: Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, ability to
      perform Internet research; proficiency in database management
      (knowledge of SalesForce.com or other CRM is a major plus)
      Initiative and project management skills
      • Project management experience and competence
      • Ability to take initiative to problem-solve and drive projects to
      completion, across a wide range of duties and with minimal supervision
      • Ability to prioritize among multiple tasks simultaneously, with
      flexibility to change direction as appropriate
      • Record of reliability, resourcefulness, and good judgment
      Collaboration and cultural fit with NewSchools
      • Ability to work as a team player; consistently take pride in own
      work and respect the work of others
      • Comfortable in an entrepreneurial, fast-paced environment;
      comfortable with ambiguity

      REQUIREMENTS
      • A bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
      • 5 years relevant work or leadership experience with increasing
      responsibilities for project management

      COMPENSATION A competitive compensation package including base
