      The Opportunity
      In 2002, New Leaders for New Schools will award 40 paid Fellowships to
      extremely talented leaders who demonstrate strong leadership skills and
      possess a relentless drive to improve education for every child. We are
      seeking candidates nationwide to fill Fellowship opportunities in
      Chicago, New York and in the San Francisco Bay Area.

      Program Description
      Those selected for the 2002 New Leaders Fellowship will receive
      outstanding training and support that includes:

      * A yearlong, full-time paid residency with an outstanding mentor
      principal.
      * Tuition-free coursework and certification in educational
      administration.
      * Placement assistance in obtaining an urban school leadership position.
      * Three years of intensive professional development, coaching and
      support.
      * Lifetime membership in a community of leaders dedicated to fostering
      high levels of academic achievement for every child.

      Application Deadline
      Applications must be received by March 1, 2002

      Qualifications
      We are looking for candidates who have a relentless drive to improve
      education for all children, a record of effective teaching or success
      with young people and a strong foundation of skills for general
      management and leadership. Applicants will likely have a minimum of
      five years of professional experience and a record of successful
      leadership in bringing people together to accomplish a common mission or
      purpose.

      The ideal candidate will have demonstrated success in a diverse array of
      professional or civic goals and have a proven track record of overcoming
      challenges and effective problem solving.
