      EdTec Inc. is a growing, private and profitable company that
      provides outsourced finance office business services to not-for-
      profit charter schools in California. Charter Schools are at the
      cutting edge of educational reform in California, providing choice
      for parents and pressure to improve traditional schools.

      Currently there are approximately 550 charters in the state,
      teaching close to 200,000 students, and spending approximately $1
      billion annually. Charters are growing by 10-15% annually.

      Our staff of twenty-five shares a commitment to improving public
      education by assisting our charter school clients. (See

      has worked for school districts or in the not-for-profit sector, or
      for someone who desires a social mission in their career.

      We are looking for a detailed-oriented financial manager who enjoys
      building systems and processes. We serve as the financial office
      for some thirty different charter schools around the state,
      assisting with their budgets, financial statements, accounts payable
      and payroll. We have a complex operation that must have a high-
      level of customer service, accuracy and efficiency.

      The Director of School Finance is responsible for the financial
      statements portion of our service. You will supervise 2-3 CPA's and
      interface with our other staff of business and education experts,
      including payroll specialists, A/P staff, attorneys and MBAs. You
      will report to the company's CFO, who has been performing this
      role. With the growth of the company, the Director of School
      Finance is a new position.

      General Responsibilities include:

      • Work with CFO to manage accounting services for the schools
      EdTec serves
      • Manage team of accountants
      • Develop into a subject-matter expert on charter school
      finance and reporting compliance
      • Help build the culture and infrastructure of the firm

      Specific Responsibilities include:

      • Research, recommend and assist in the formulation and
      implementation of school accounting best practices, policies and
      • Identify and recommend methods to improve fiscal operational
      procedures and internal control; manage and track implementation at
      school sites
      • Ensure that all school reports and disclosures comply with
      applicable governmental regulations, professional standards, and
      organizational policies
      • Develop and maintain automated financial reports and other
      tools for analysis and use by Client Managers, school admin and
      Board of Directors
      • Manage and coordinate the annual financial audit process for
      EdTec clients; assist in the preparation of auditor schedules and
      responses; manage internal audit field work support; oversee year-
      end accrual procedures and work with school managers to ensure all
      funds are received and accounted for in subsequent fiscal year
      • Develop and implement school fund accounting procedures and
      reporting; provide fund accounting guidance and training at school
      • Conduct regular audits of school funds
      • Maintain system and reporting compatibility with
      California's Standardized Account Code Structure (SACS)
      • Manage semi-annual Consolidated Application process; publish
      guidelines, schedules and oversee accounting for federal funding
      • Develop project plans for preparation and submittal of each
      mandated fiscal report (interims and annual reporting, Class Size
      Reduction, audits, 990's, SB740); maintain and publish reporting
      guidelines and instructions internally as well as to school sites to
      collect all required information; track progress and ensure timely
      • Develop online financial reporting tools for customer viewing
      • Maintain and enhance EdTec School Accounting Knowledgebase,
      including financial reporting templates, standard school financial
      procedures and scheduled info briefs to customers
      • Implement and manage school loan application process


      • Required: CPA or equivalent technical accounting experience
      • Required: Management experience, preferably in financial and
      accounting services
      • Extensive experience with accounting system software and MS
      • School or non-profit fund accounting experience a major
