      Description

      Peer Health Exchange (PHE), is a national non-profit organization that gives teenagers the knowledge and skills they need to make healthy decisions. We do this by training college students to teach a comprehensive health curriculum in public high schools that lack health education. Since our founding in 2003, we have trained more than 6,500 college student volunteers to deliver effective health education to over 72,000 public high school students in New York City, Boston, Chicago, the San Francisco Bay Area, Los Angeles, and Washington, D.C. In 2011, we launched a four year Strategic Plan that has three major priorities: deepening our impact, investing in more robust program evaluation, and developing and testing additional methods for impact, all while serving 120,000 teens by 2015.

      The primary responsibilities of the PHE Bay Area Program Assistant are to provide program support to the other members of the program team, manage program operations and materials, and manage data collection and evaluation. The Bay Area Program Assistant will report directly to the Bay Area Program Director and works closely with the entire Bay Area team. The Program Assistant role is an entry-level position and will provide training, coaching and support to position high performing candidates for direct opportunities for increasing responsibility and growth within the organization.

      This is a part-time position with a competitive hourly salary and benefits package.

      Responsibilities

      The PHE Bay Area Program Assistant will:

      • Support the PHE Bay Area program by:

      o Assisting with college volunteer recruitment, training, and assessment

      o Preparing and distributing recruitment, training, teaching, and outreach materials for college and high school partners

      o Coordinating logistics, such as setting up A/V needs, at training retreats at college sites

      o Assisting with the management of online health workshop schedule

      o Supporting program event planning and execution

      o Attending PHE workshops in partner High Schools

      • Manage PHE Bay Area operations by:

      o Maintaining up-to-date inventory of all program and other materials

      o Purchasing, distributing, and maintaining office supplies and equipment

      o Coordinating technology requests and services with National staff and with technology vendor

      • Develop and execute special projects as needed. Past examples include:

      o Researching the middle school and high school health education landscape in various local school districts

      o Supporting Bay Area implementation of strategic pilots

      o Supporting the Bay Area Executive Director in fundraising research and materials prep

      • Manage PHE Bay Area program data and evaluation by:

      o Organizing and conducting program evaluations in high schools

      o Collecting and analyzing programmatic evaluation data on a weekly basis

      Qualifications

      Peer Health Exchange is looking for someone who:

      • Is committed to the PHE mission

      • Has or is working towards a Bachelors degree

      • Has excellent writing and editing skills

      • Has excellent organizational skills and can successfully manage detailed logistics and program operations

      • Has strong interpersonal and relationship building skills

      • Has strong verbal communication skills and a strong interest in developing training skills

      • Is flexible and willing to work non-traditional hours as needed (late nights and some weekend hours)

      • Has command of all Microsoft Office programs, especially Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook

      • Is efficient in managing diverse tasks, activities, and projects and effectively manages their time

      • Is comfortable in a fast-paced, high energy, entrepreneurial environment

      • Is a self-starter and comfortable with problem solving in challenging circumstances

      • Has experience working with marginalized youth or in low-income public schools

      • Has an interest in growing within the organization into a program management role
