      SUMMARY
      Connect Community Charter School is seeking an experienced special education teacher to develop and administer its special education program. The Special Education Coordinator will be responsible for coordinating special education services as well as providing direct services for our students with special education needs. For the 2013-14 school year, the Special Education Coordinator will provide instruction, services, consultation, coordination, planning, curricular resources, evaluation and remediation for learners with exceptional needs. These may include all classifications of special education students whose Individualized Education Program (IEP) requires academic support. The number of hours for this position is approximately 30 hours per week.

      CONNECT COMMUNITY CHARTER SCHOOL OVERVIEW
      Connect Community Charter School is a new school in Redwood City with a mission to prepare students to be self-aware, responsible, life-long learners, motivated to meet the challenges of a rapidly changing world. Connect is in its planning phase and will open in August 2013 with 140 students in grades K-2 and 6. At its capacity the school will expand to approximately 300 students in grades K-8. Connect seeks to be representative of the population of the Redwood City School District (72% Latino, 70% low-income, and 45% English Language Learners) and to bring the culture of innovation and resources of Silicon Valley to those that rarely have access to it.

      INSTRUCTIONAL MODEL
      Connect's teachers will create and embrace a culture of compassion and perseverance where high expectations are the norm. Connect's instructional model is grounded in approaches that allow children to learn and grow in ways that suit them best including:
      • Inquiry-based learning
      • Integrated social-emotional development
      • Service Learning

      ADMINISTRATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES
      • Coordinate all special education programs within Connect Community Charter School;
      • Interpret and implement all state and federal special education requirements and mandates to ensure compliance;
      • In concert with school leadership and appropriate personnel, plan and implement professional development programs for regular education personnel and parents;
      • Be accountable for system-wide student records including compliance with appropriate laws and regulations;
      • Serve as a member or case manager of the IEP team, the Student Study Team and other appropriate school committees
      • Ensure delivery of all of the services prescribed in the Individual education plans of students enrolled at Connect;
      • Serve as primary liaison with Redwood City School District and San Mateo County SELPA.
      • Support teachers in identifying effective intervention strategies, modifications, and accommodations for students who are making limited academic progress or behavioral improvements.

      TEACHING RESPONSIBILITIES
      • Provide direct and indirect instruction for students whose needs were identified in an IEP who are assigned to general education teachers for the majority of the school day;
      • Evaluate students' progress;
      • Effectively collaborate with general education teachers to coordinate the IEPs of students with special needs;
      • Prepare written reports accurately and submit in a timely manner;
      • Effectively communicate with teachers, parents, and administrators to facilitate the IEP process;
      • Observe students, as needed, who are identified through the Student Study Team.

      QUALIFICATIONS:
      • Bachelors Degree; Masters Degree preferred
      • Certification as Special Education Administrator or eligible for certification
      • Valid California teaching credential; Multiple Subject and Learning Handicapped, Educational Specialist Instruction Credential (Mild/Moderate), Resource Specialist Certificate or authorization

      EXPERIENCE WITH: teaching and/or supervision in the field of special education; collaborative teaching strategies, case management processes, differentiated instruction, behavioral strategies.
