      Program Description:
The SEO Scholars Program provides motivated San Francisco public high school students with an out-of-school supplemental academic curriculum, college guidance, and the leadership development necessary to gain admission to, and succeed in, selective colleges and universities.

      Job Description:
SEO Instructors are responsible for teaching an appropriately challenging and rigorous course during our programming â€" be it after school, Saturdays or during our Summer Academy.

We are currently looking for a part-time after-school ELA instructor to teach Mondays and Wednesdays at our site in the Mission. Instructors should expect about ten students per class and will teach for an hour each day. Additional tutoring hours are available as well, and this instructor will join our substitute pool to potentially cover Saturday classes as needed.

Instructors will be supplied with a curriculum, including syllabi, instructional handouts, activity sheets, homework assignments, and rubrics/grading guidelines. We favor a pedagogical approach that includes direct instruction and modeling as well as small group and independent work. This requires that instructors “bring to life” the Scholars Program curriculum, remain flexible in their pedagogy, and work to create and manage an effective, engaging learning environment. Instructors are also responsible for tracking homework completion, compiling quarterly grades, providing feedback on student issues, and upholding SEO policies and principles.

      The ideal candidate:
      • A creative professional with a strong background in English and passion for teaching
      • Has high school or college-level teaching experience
      • Holds a Bachelor’s Degree in English or some related field (Master’s Degree in English, Education and/or California Teaching Certification are desired but not required.)
      • The candidate must enjoy working with high school students. Strong interpersonal and oral communication skills are required.
      • Experience working with diverse staff and student population and familiarity with interdisciplinary curricula will strengthen applications.

Hourly compensation that includes class prep time is competitive and commensurate with experience.
