Phoenix Project Exhibit: Call for Art and Literary Work

Please let others know about the Phoenix Project!

The Phoenix Project, an exhibit of ex-cult member art and literary works, is looking for art, music, and literary works to be presented at this year’s annual conference of the International Cultic Studies Association, scheduled for July 3-5, 2014, in Silver Springs, MD.

The Phoenix Project Exhibit seeks to reveal the truth of the cult experience and its effects on the individual. It also empowers former members by giving them a time and place to exhibit their work and to tell their story in a way that might not have been allowed during their cult experience. This can be a liberating and empowering experience.

If you are a former member of a cult or high-demand organization, we invite you to submit proposals of your art, literary, or other forms of creative work for review, to be considered for this upcoming exhibit.

Works sought include visual artworks, drama, dance, music, video, or literary works that reveal the world of the cult survivor. This includes the previous cult group experience, recovery, or aspects of the time of transition from the cult or high-demand organization.

Creative works may be in any art form, including, but not limited to: literary (such as poetry, drama, short story, creative non-fiction, or other writings), music of any kind, dance, and the visual arts (such as paintings, prints, drawings, collage, sculpture, fiber arts, mixed media, photography, film, video, or multi-media).

Space is limited, so proposals submitted earlier will have preference.

To submit your proposal of art, literary, or other work, or for more information, please e-mail Phoenix Project Director and Coordinator Diana Pletts (exmemberartwork@...)..

Please note: If desired, this work may be presented anonymously, or through another presenter.

The Phoenix Project is strictly an exhibit and literary readings time, and it is not involved with art, CD, or book sales.  For questions about sales of your work, please contact Dr. Michael Langone at mail@....**

Diana Pletts, MA, directs and coordinates The Phoenix Project, an exhibit of ex-cult member art and literary works presented at annual conferences of ICSA. A former member of the Path, a charismatic End-Times group, she works, herself, on the production of artwork to express her own group involvement, among other things. Diana has spoken on cult affiliation at colleges and churches, on the radio, as a speaker for Elderhostel, and at Chautauqua Institution. She lives in Maryland with her husband, Dennis. Those interested in participating in the Phoenix Project, or in obtaining more information about the Project, are invited to e-mail her at exmemberartwork@....
