      In Windows XP and 7, if your scrolling mouse is not scrolling, download and install KatMouse (I believe the version I used was 1.04) - and voila!
       
      I use a Microsoft wireless mouse, its driver, and KatMouse, in addition to the laptop touchpad - and all works beautifully!
