26064123: Lead by Example - Donate & Encourage t o participate in Rotary’s life-changing work
- Jul 21, 2014Lead by Example - Donate & Encourage to participate in Rotary’s life-changing workIn advance of the 2013 International Assembly, then President-elect Ron Burton issued a challenge to his class of district governors. In his First Class initiative, he encouraged each of them to demonstrate leadership by example by making a personal donation to The Rotary Foundation. Burton was happy to announce during the assembly that all 537 governors had met the challenge.
A year later, 2014-15 President Gary C.K. Huang built upon that momentum by exhorting his district governors to be the Best Class. Once again, the women and men rose to the occasion.
Those district governors are now encouraging their class of club presidents to join them in supporting the Foundation this, and every, Rotary year.
Ricardo de Maio Bermejo, 2013-14 governor of District 4510 (Brazil), used the First Class initiative to urge all his club presidents, their spouses, and Rotaract and Interact club presidents to contribute to the Foundation. As of late March, the district had raised $35,000 through the initiative.
“The most important part was not the donations to the Foundation alone,” says Bermejo, “but an increased awareness among us all that we can and should contribute
to our Foundation.”
This year’s new club presidents are asked to lead by example, emulating President Huang’s Best Class challenge. In addition to benefiting the Foundation, the following activities will help qualify your club for the 2014-15 Presidential Citation:
As club president, personally donate to The Rotary Foundation.
Record your club’s 2014-15 Foundation giving goals in Rotary Club Central.
Motivate at least 10 percent of your club members to enroll in Rotary’s recurring giving program, Rotary Direct.
Increase the total number of Benefactors, Bequest Society members, and Paul Harris Society members in the club.
Support polio eradication through a community fundraiser or a public awareness campaign.
The benefits of increasing your club’s Foundation support cannot be overstated. If every Rotarian joins in the tradition of personal participation every year, our ability to change lives in communities around the world will be enhanced dramatically.Download the 2014-15 presidential citation for more activities.Source: Rotary LeaderCourtesy: www.eflashonline.org
