Re: 12" deep or 14" deep
- For fear that the subject has been on long enough...I have to put my two cents in anyhow. I take my 12" spyder pot and 14" regular when we go. The 12" does most of the cooking, but the 14 is my favorite to make a pineappleupsidedowncake in for a group of folks.

I have a 12 deep and a 14 regular and use them all, but it is the 12 regular that I use the most and since recipes are typically written around a 12 regular that is the first oven I would gift. A 12 deep is a nice oven, but a 12 regular recipe that needs to brown on the top will need adjustment if cooked in a 12 deep and that might discourage the user.

I told her I knew the right source to get some helpful suggestions as well as where to purchase 8 ovens. My first thought was a Camp Chef 14" deep with legs on the lid so that the lid can be used for other things besides the dutchoven part. That is a big oven - but the families will grow into it. Or - would the 12" deep be OK.? The grandkids are still small -- no teenagers -- so - what is your suggestion and where should she purchase them? They can get a 14" later but then, once they get use to the dutchoven, they will be buying more anyway!!!!
