A Request re our Posting & replying procedures from Jimmie
- I realise now - following Doon the Toon's plea, that my message re
keeping on topic, should also have made reference to some untidiness
which had crept into out messages. Two or three of our members have
mentioned this recently, especially re repeating long chunks of
messages, and pasting earlier stuff.
Those of us who have Yahoo IDs,can do as I have just done, and review
our messages from #1298 onwards, using the "Expand messages"
facility. No names, no pack drill, but there are many instances where
no effort has been made to Delete unimportant parts of messages which
are being replied to. Our footers keep being repeated, even up to
four or five times, as well as whole messages. I really must ask
everyone to be more active in using the "Delete" button when replying
to messages. Make sure that only the Key opening sentence of the
earlier message remains. It is also good practise to delete the
opener "you wrote" and replace this with "Doon the Toon" wrote.
Another help to recognising the Topic, as well as ensuring that the
Subject Heading is relevant.
Our Group Settings normally ensure that only plain text messages are
relayed, and that no attachments are permitted. I am at a loss to
understand how John Fraser's message #1323 triggered off a spate of
HTML coding, right from his opening line. Maybe he can help? Yahoo
should not have let that through!!
We have recently suffered a number of "unsubscribe" requests, many
related in time to some of our untidy message transmissions. Let's
try to clean up our act, by being just that bit more careful after
hitting the "reply" button - What can I delete? How much of the
earlier message Must go back to it's originator? Kill off our Footers
in any case when replying!
Many thanks to everyone - hopefully we shall all enjoy the exchanges
even more in the future.
Yours aye Jimmie - your concierge at the front door!!
