Does an elf PC have the perception of an assassin, or the perception
      score of an assassin +5?

In book four (which if you do not have it, you can find on the
underdogs site), if you look at the stats for an elf, you will see
      its perception in 13.

It is perception of an Assassin +5. The statements and example on
page 31 do not make clear that, although elves gain STEALTH and
PERCEPTION the same as Assassins *regardless* of Profession, elves
naturally start with a base PERCEPTION of 13 (as found on page 37)
while human assassins start with a base PERCEPTION of 8.

Any argument in favour of dropping the +5 would either have to also
drop the base score for a non-adventuring elf by five points, or
accept that elves who decide to go adventuring somehow become
significantly less perceptive than their non-adventuring kinfolk.

Who'd be a DW elf? Gimme a MERP elf any day. Court of Ardor,
        anyone? ;-)
