Out of curiosity, I ventured to the DoGA Jp site to see what's new.
Any DoGA updates? Well, kind of...

It seems that DoGA has moved on to become "Play Animation"
(for name reference we'll just call it "PA" for short)

That PA system structure is the same as DoGA.
The Play Animation levels are similar to DoGA and are renamed as
Child Play Animation ("L1"), Teen Play Animation ("L2"),
and Play Animation ("L3")...

...according to the Play site, features become visible with frequent
usage of the program levels (weird, huh?); but they all become unlocked
when you register the Play Animation program ($50 USD, by Paypal only)
and at that time the site send you a registration key to unlock the features
in order to enable the Saving of .AVI and .GIF animations.
If your PC remains offline for a long time (several weeks or months)
the Play Animation program goes back to its trial state and you'd have to
enter your registration key again. (weird, huh huh??)

The program of course comes with Parts and Backgrounds; although I'll
guess you could still use DoGA's parts as they look identical in Play Animation.
As for the backgrounds, I guess you can use just about any HD panoramic image
in PA as a background. I've done such a thing in DoGA with custom images
made in L3's Background Converter. Just don''t pan the camera to where
the background seams are visible! LOL

The questions are: "Does Play Animation use the .SUF file format?"
and "Does Play Animation use parts made/imported from Metasequoia?"
Only one way to find out.

I know that if I were to try Play Animation now I'd surely try to import all of my
hundreds of custom-made .SUF Parts that I've made from scratch in Metasequoia.
(And that means TEDIOUS file/folder re-associations All. Over. Again.)

Speaking of which, Metasequoia is now advanced and is under a
different ownership? I'm still using Metaseq 3.10! LOL

You can also download a Play Animation plugin that allows the export
of PA objects to Unity... I've tried checking out Unity, it's too steep for me
but those of you Game makers who use it could probably pair it
with Play Animation for exporting objects back-n-forth.

Play Animation looks quite simple since it was "beta-tested" by children!
After all, the program is designed to teach kids in Japan the basics of
CG Animation, just like DoGA once was.

Damn, I miss hanging out at the old DoGA Jp and English sites 10+ years ago
viewing their animation contests and DoGA related site links.

I hardly use DoGA L3 lately but for making background images
for my personal DVD menus. And I haven't done any hardcore DoGA
animations and models ever since 2010 when I redesigned my robot
Mazinger-Z DoGA model, and more of his enemy robots, with HD textures
and large-scaled landscapes for battle scenes with animated realistic
HD explosions. I dropped the ball on what would have been my next
"Mazinger-Z movie", I just got lazy after my first Mazinger movie (2006).
I actually haven't done any CG-Anything since 2010! lol

So, there ya have it, a heads up on DoGA as of lately. Cheers!

I still use DoGA from time to time, especially for gam jams and such where I need artwork done quickly.  Yeah, the Play systems seems kind of dodgy, can you tell if it added any new features beside GIF and Unity export (which I already have tools that can do that for DoGA)?

I haven't tried Play Animation yet... the combined download of
PA 1 and 2 is a whopping 232mb which is too large for my capped
bandwidth at this time (I'm on mobile monthly data plat, no Cable internet).

I'll have to try PA to see what it actually does, and if it can be tweaked
the way I've done to my DoGA L3 program. hee hee.

If down to the wire, I would stick with DoGA L3 since we've
'mastered' it all these years. $40 is too much money to use DoGA
for just ten or fifteen years tops. LOL

Many of you folks have been using it with other programs such as gaming
which is cool. It just takes a while and some work to set it all up to use
DoGA in conjunction with other programs that way.

Some Japanese Playstation version "Super Robot Wars" games have
used DoGA mech parts in them.

And as usual, I've still been tweaking DoGA with new textures and attributes
to my genie files all these years... I just never know when I'll be inspired
to create another "Mazinger" movie. Right now I'm just too lazy to get back
into all that animating even with a dual-core PC at this point. LOL

...it can now morph objects (similar to Poser? Hmm)
Version 4 and up need to be registered to unlock full features.
