- Hi folks,
First the good news: I printed up DITKOMANIA #94 on Tuesday and mailed out copies to 17 people later that day. I mailed out copies to 103 people this afternoon. Which leaves around 50 copies left to be mailed out.
Here's the bad news (long story):
I'd decided to pay for the issues in two separate purchases, buying the first 125 issues from the copier store on Tuesday, and buying the remaining 125 issues later in the week. (Since I knew that it would take some time to get all the sheets folded, stapled, etc. there was no need to have the entire 250-issue print run in my possession on Tuesday.)
So I went to the copier store today and bought the sheets which comprised the remaining 125 issues. Unfortunately, the copier store made a mistake with the second half of the print run -- printing the reverse sides of the sheets upside down, making it impossible to make a booklet from the sheets. So what this means is that I'll have to go back to the copier store tomorrow and see about getting the sheets redone. And I likely won't be able to get them from the copier store until Monday, and won't be able to mail them out till Tuesday. Which means that 50 people will not be getting DM #94 until late next week.
But for most of the rest of you, the issue should be arriving in your mailboxes within the next couple days!
Thanks,
Rob Imes
DITKOMANIA editor-publisher - Hi Rob!Hey, I just wanted to thank you for the latest Ditkomania, which is always a treat! I particularly enjoyed Wang Jiaxiang’s "Ditko, Discovered!” It’s not often you hear about a newer fans recent discovery of the wonders that are Ditko.I also enjoyed your review of Ditko “Four-Page Series.” I knew Steve was disappointed in the 1964 con (which is why he allegedly didn’t attend any others), but what a pity he couldn’t appreciate the difference between pests and fans who were undoubtedly thrilled to meet one of their artistic idols. These kids and teens were simply too young and inexperienced to know how to act in a mature manner when meeting one of their idols. Most were probably in awe of the guy who was doing such amazing work drawing Spider-Man and Dr. Strange, not to mention those great mystery stories for Marvel and Charlton. Somehow I don’t picture Eisner or Lee being that judgmental of their fans.As far as the alleged incident of some idiot guy tossing up original art that had been donated, well the story sounds a bit suspect. But even if it happened, it was just one jerk who got a little out of hand in the excitement of his first con. I know if I or my comic buddies had been there, even at age 12 I’d have been thrilled beyond belief to grab as many pages as possible, and would have treasured them. If I was Steve, I certainly wouldn’t hold a grudge against those kids (or young adults) all these decades later. But that’s me.Best wishes,Michael T.On Jan 21, 2016, at 4:48 PM, robimes@...
