Jan 27 DITAbug meeting - DITA and HATs, Neil Perlin

The next DITAbug meeting is presented in Concord MA and broadcast to RTP, NC and possibly Providence RI.

Please tell me (laugustine@...) if you plan to attend in Concord or Providence. Well serve a light snack in Concord please mention food restrictions.

Topic:   Hey Rocky – Watch Me Pull DITA Out of My HAT

      Speaker:   Neil Perlin

When:   January 27, 5:15 pm on (presentation starts at 5:30)

Where:   SolidWorks Corporation in Concord MA

      Details:

The DITA adoption rate has been low for several reasons. DITA authoring tools can be expensive, and until now, it has been hard to experiment with DITA without making a full, and possibly irreversible, commitment to it.

This presentation describes a method for using Help Authoring Tools (HATs) to experiment with DITA. We start with an overview of DITA concepts, discuss the strategic effect of trying DITA using a HAT, and then examine specific DITA features in Flare and RoboHelp. By using your HAT, you can see if DITA is for you; if not, you can back out easily.

      Speaker:

Neil Perlin has 31 years experience in technical communication, with 25 in training, consulting, and development for formats and tools like WinHelp, HTML Help, WebHelp, Flare, RoboHelp, and others.  He writes and speaks about online help and documentation for IEEE PCS, STC, and other groups.

Neil is Adobe Certified for RoboHelp and Captivate and Madcap Certified for Flare and Mimic.  He offers training and consulting for structured writing, single sourcing, XML, and Flare, RoboHelp, and Captivate.  He can be reached at nperlin@..., www.hyperword.com.
