  • I am shocked as well. My most recent interaction with Heather was on the 30 th Anniversary Celebration committee. She was always so willing to help! She will be missed. My condolences to her family. Marion

  • My parents are coming next month for a visit, so I've decided to get them to swab their cheeks for a DNA sample while they are here. A previous discussion on Dist-gen recommended Family Tree DNA as being a reliable company. I would like to know how many markers I should pay to have tested. Any opinions? Also, is there any point in doing my cheek swab if both of them do it? Marion

  • Just a warning to SIGs and others who use a projector at the AFHS Library - BOTH projectors were not in the cupboard last night. There was no indication of who has them, why they were removed or when they will be returned. (They did not appear to be stolen as the cupboard was locked.) Marion Peterson Ontario SIG Co-ordinator

  • Thank you to those who replied. Heather William's response saying f = freeholder and h = householder/tenant is correct. Thanks also to Xenia Stanford who pointed me towards a similar directory at http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~forontario/g-burford-township.htm which confirms this code. Marion

  • Could anyone tell me what the codes h and f mean in a directory? I'm looking at the Halton County Directory and Gazetteer for 1869-1870. It gives Concession, Lot and the Lot number is followed by either h or f. The f might mean freeholder, but I can't think of what the h would mean. Thanks, Marion

  • Hello everyone, I've volunteered to co-ordinate the Ontario Special Interest Group (SIG) for the coming year. I'm starting to do some planning and brainstorming, so if you have any ideas for meeting topics or questions you would like answered, please send them to me. I'm hoping to delegate, so I'm looking for volunteers and/or suggestions of possible speakers. If you find any...

  • Hello The turnout for this evening's meeting was larger than expected, so we ran out of copies of Sherry's handout. If you would like to receive it as a Word attachment, reply to me and I'll send it. Sherry has also offered to send some of her information to be placed on the AFHS blog, so check http://afhs.ab.ca/blog/ in the near future. Marion
