  • Alan, I don't know if this will answer the question for you for sure. By chance I received this link as part of my Saturday Kim Kommando show e-mail. It explains how to set your screen saver to your pictures. If you kind of reverse engineer this one, I think you will have the solution to your situation. The link is http://www.komando.com/kolumns_show.asp?showID=6119#complete I...

  • Something to watch out for. There is a new program claiming to be a pop up blocker. Here is an article talking about it. Basically, don't install PopupsNuker. http://www.majorgeeks.com/vb/showthread.php?t=32835 Brian http://www.afhs.ab.ca

  • I have had this problem for about a week now. I used Internet Explorer to go to the Windows Update page. I have done this a number of times in the past with no problem. I was trying to download a non-critical update for Windows 98SE and it gets as far as the Review and Install Updates after selecting just one. I press the Install Now button and no download starts. Sometimes the...

  • This is rather long, but it is along the same line as earlier e-mails from others in the group. I have been getting a lot of Netsky viruses lately in attachments from people I don't even know. My Norton Antivirus is catching them. As luck would have it, I received this alert from CERT about this virus and others. I pass it on to you as it makes a great deal of sense and I don't...

  • Just a quick note of a link I have to pass on about home computer security. The guy writes well and provides a checklist. http://www.securityfocus.com/elsewhere I stumbled on to the article via http://www.dailyrotation.com/ that was passed on by someone in the group a month or so back. I now have it as my home page to see what articles are there. I have anywhere from four to seven...

My system seems to work fine even if I deny it access to the network. 2. I tried to rename the file but got a message 'Cannot rename ppstub. The specific file is being used by Windows.' 3. I ran it from the Start/Run window but...

  • If anyone is interested, here is the link to Norton's discussing the virus. http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/w32.netsky.b@^$1 html I was wondering if something was going on. I usually get a once a week update. I think I have seen Norton update three times in as many days. Brian. At 06:18 PM 2/18/04 Wednesday, you wrote: Someone who is on dist gen has a virus...

  • Hello Donna. I just checked my Hosts file and Microsoft and Akami aren't in it. My Spybot S & D hasn't added things to this that I can see. I only have two entries in the file. I also worry about tinkering with the Hosts file. I would do the second suggestion ie: Internet Options/Security /Restricted Sites, first. This seems to me the more likely problem source. If Internet...

  • Just a follow up. I tried this link again and it did funny things. I actually use a different link and then get routed to the one I gave before. Try http://windowsupdate.microsoft. com I think the problem you are having will turn out to be like Bill B. said. My firewall is currently blocking images on pages, I think. It could also be the Mozilla browser I am using. I have to...

  • It may be that the link is no longer active. I had that a few times when trying to update some Microsoft product.
